Mill Stream Antiques

Mill Stream Antiques Mill Stream Antiques is located in the historic Cascade House along Route 1 in Sullivan. It was built to provide housing for a lumber company in the back. A.

The building is a 2 1/2 story Greek Revival Style house that was built in the early 1800s. They cut the wood with steam that was generated by burning the bark from the lumber. Soon after it became a boarding house and tavern for transients. It became run down and was empty for several years and actually boarded up. In 1919 it was reopened as a store selling groceries and Fro-joy ice cream and had

a gas pump.It was called Seavey's General Store. The owners lived in an appartment on the second floor. The building was sold to the Gray family in 1930 and became a very successful feed and grain store. The Gray family operated the store until they moved it to the Hancock side of the Sullivan bridge in 1926. That business later moved and became L. Gray and son. The Gray family were the last to actually live in the upstairs appartment and when they left the house was empty for several years. In 1986 it was purchased by Bob and Judie Phillips who live in Sullivan Harbor. They have been renovating the building and recently opened it as an antique shop.
