It's hard to believe, but next month marks 3 years since we reopened our little store. Some days it feels like we just unlocked the doors for the first time (sometimes we accidentally lock it throughout the day 🥴) and other days it feels like we've lived three lifetimes' worth of adventures, repairs, lessons, and unexpected detours since then.
To be honest, there were plenty of moments when we weren't sure we'd ever get to opening day. What started as "let's renovate a little country store" somehow turned into a new septic system, new HVAC systems, electrical work, flooring, all new refrigeration and kitchen equipment, permits, surprise expenses, and approximately 47,000 trips to the hardware store.
Over the last three years we've learned that running a small country store means wearing every hat imaginable. Baker, cook, cashier, plumber, snow shoveler, bookkeeper, therapist, social media manager, and occasional professional problem creator.
We certainly haven't done it alone.
Thank you to our neighbors who have shown up time and time again. Thank you to our customers who have stuck with us through menu changes, staff changes, construction projects, product experiments, and whatever fresh nonsense we happened to be trying that week.
And a special thank you to the other country stores and general stores throughout New Hampshire and beyond. Small businesses are often painted as competitors, but we've found far more kindness, advice, encouragement, and support than competition. We're grateful for every store owner who answered a question, shared an idea, or reminded us that we're not the only ones trying to figure it all out as we go.
(Almost) Three years later, we're still learning every day, still making mistakes, still improving, and still incredibly grateful to be part of this community.
Thanks for sticking with us through the wins, the mistakes, and whatever new idea we decide is absolutely necessary at 9 o'clock on a Tuesday night. ❤️
