...Though not very often, every now and then this happens. You're playing a gig or just sitting around the house playing a few tunes, when you look down at the heel of your guitar neck and you say, "is that a crack in the heel of my guitar neck?"
..Well, if you can hold your guitar up to a light and you can see light through it, yes you have a crack. At this point you want to relieve the tension on your strings.
..This can be repaired. After shaping a caul to apply even pressure with a clamp, it can be re-glued...

…I had an Epiphone ES model come in with the output jack broken out of the side of the guitar. This type of repair is typical when the jack is mounted in the laminate wood without a jack plate.

…A jack plate is far stronger than a jack mounted into the wood and will last for years to come. The process is a little tedious, but the results are outstanding.

...Good Saturday morning bass guitar fans everywhere. Lets talk vintage, and when I say vintage, I mean close to the beginning for one guitar manufacturer who survived through the ages...Fender.
..In todays post we will look at a 1952 Fender Precision bass. I was a only 3 years old when this guitar was built. This was an interesting instrument to put back into its original condition and involved a lot of research. Finding original parts was not easy, and when you did find an original part, it was sky high expensive. for example, I wanted to replace the volume potentiometer with an original part. The only one I could find came in at a whopping $575.00. Since the guitar had been modified (like most of these earliest models), it was hard to justify many of the original part prices. During my research, an original 1952 Precision bass, intact, with all original parts, with case and not modified, came in at a cool $32,000.00. But even the ones that had been modified through the years still brought a respectable $15,000.00 to $20,000.00 price tag.
..It was a pleasure to put it back into the hands of the owner. This guitar was built the second year of Fenders venture into the electric bass guitar.

...Greetings guitar fans everywhere. I have a tasty little morsel (OK, you can't eat it), but a rare Fender 5 year production run called the Competition Mustang. This limited model came in vibrant colors with racing stripes.

At first you would think there is nothing special about this guitar, well, except that Kurt Cobain used a 1969, left handed model. If you decide to pick one up, be aware this guitar manufactured from 1969 to 1973 goes for a cool $3000.00 to $4200.00.

I had one of these in the shop a while back for a minor electronics repair and a setup. Please enjoy this rare Fender Competition Mustang...😎

...It has been a while since I have posted any new repair photos, so I searched through some past repairs and found a few gems you might like...
..For this post, I found a couple of photos of a pre-war Rickenbacker lap steel guitar model that came into the shop, similar to one that was featured in Neil Young's Harvest Moon video (YouTube). This is a B-model lap steel, estimated manufacture in 1939. With a distinctive sound and chrome plated metal accents, the metal parts were changed to plastic around the time of WWII...

...While repairing guitars I get the occasional vintage instruments and of course rare instruments that have a short span of production due to various reasons. But I was recently humbled by the prospect of putting a little life back into a grand old USA made Guild Jumbo 12 string that had sat pretty much un-played for quite a long time.
..The guitar belonged to a S***f-National Recording Artists on MCA, Electra Asylum, Warner Bro.& Curb band member, Jim Bowling. Jim passed away some years back and the guitar has recently found a new home.
..Though nothing more than a setup, the instrument wreaked with a rich history of original songs, band gigs and a deep timeline of stories that make it so relevant today. Please enjoy the photos of Jim Bowling's Guild Jumbo 12 string guitar...
