Little project I'm doing as a gift for my father. This is his old ocean setup from the 60's-70's. Tru-Temper 6.5' rod with a Penn #78 thumb drag reel. There was barely any grease left inside and what little there was was rock hard haha. Also, the last eyelet was broken off the rod. Cleaned everything up and welded the eyelet back to the rod tip. Probably stronger than it was new! It amazes me how well the internals looked inside this reel. But when you see the "made in USA" on the rod and reel, it makes sense! Take notes Penn, bring manufacturing back into country :D

Carbon fiber main drag washer upgrade to replace the felt washers on a Penn Fierce II live liner. These are hand made right in house and precision sized for each individual reel. Don't see these too often! Tica Abyss TF6007R that had a rocky feel while retrieving. Everything inside was in great shape except for the main drive gear which had quite a bit of wear in the teeth. New drive gear installed and it's back to catching fish.

Another Penn Captiva 5000 live liner from the same customer. This one had a skip in the retrieve which is normally indication of a stripped gear. Sure enough, main gear and idler gear were both pretty rough, along with the rest of the reel being filthy overall and needing fresh grease. After new gears and a new rear drag spring, she was good as new!

Nice and grimy Penn Captiva 5000 live liner. Drag wasn't operating smoothly and the reel overall was rough feeling. No part replacement was necessary, just a good cleaning and some fresh grease and it was smooth as glass again.
