📚 What’s New Wednesday 📚

We’ve recently acquired a large and wonderfully eclectic collection of antiquarian books, and we’re excited to begin sharing them with you!

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be cataloging and shelving these new arrivals, which span a wide range of subjects, authors, and eras. For collectors and lovers of beautiful books, there will be plenty to discover.

Some highlights from the books we’ve already processed include:

📚 Father’s Day is Sunday, June 21st

Looking for a Father’s Day gift that’s a little more meaningful than another tie or coffee mug?

We’ve recently added a number of exciting arrivals to the shelves at Athina Books that might be perfect for the readers, thinkers, grill masters, and history buffs in your life.

New additions include a large collection of books by Philip Roth and E.L. Doctorow, including several first editions for collectors. We also have a selection of books on grilling and barbecue for dads who love to cook, as well as a fascinating collection of poetry and biographies about Allen Ginsberg for those interested in literature, the Beat Generation, and American cultural history.

Meet Fiona, the newest member of the Athina Books team!

Fiona will be joining us a couple of days each week this summer before heading off to college in the fall. A lifelong book lover, she plans to major in English and is excited to spend her summer surrounded by books and readers.

We’ve been hard at work making room on our shelves, and that means more books have been pulled from our regular inventoryincluding titles from our Modern Fiction section.

Many of these books have found a new home on our clearance carts, which we’ve recently refreshed with plenty of new selections priced at just $1, $3, and $5. You never know what hidden gems you might uncover!

🌈📚 Happy Pride Month from Athina Books!

Throughout June, we’re highlighting books by and about LGBTQ+ voices and experiences. Whether you’re revisiting a favorite or discovering something new, Pride Month is a wonderful time to celebrate the stories that broaden our understanding of the world and of one another.

Some of the titles currently featured in our shop include:

🌱📚 Storytime is almost here!

Join us at Athina Books on Sunday, June 7, at 10:30 a.m. for our monthly Storytime!

This month's program ties into the Goodnow Library's Summer Reading theme, "Plant a Seed and Read." We'll enjoy stories together, and each child will receive seeds to plant and take home, encouraging a love of both reading and growing.

It's a fun way to kick off the summer with books, imagination, and a little bit of gardening!

Storytime is free and open to all young readers and their families. Please note that caregivers must remain with their little ones throughout the program.

📚 How many of The Guardian's 100 Best Novels of All Time have you read?

Earlier this month, The Guardian unveiled its new list of the 100 greatest novels ever written, compiled from the votes of more than 170 authors, critics, and academics. George Eliot's *Middlemarch* claimed the top spot, alongside classics and modern favorites from around the world.

At Athina Books, we're pleased to say that our shelves are home to many of the titles on the list, from beloved classics by Jane Austen, Virginia Woolf, and James Joyce to modern masterpieces by Gabriel García Márquez, Edward P. Jones, and Hillary Mantel.
