Well, here it is nearly another year has gone by. It has been a busy year. Lynn and Jim from Klamath River Alpacas came for a short visit. What a long drive for such a short visit! Jeremy, and my brother, Chris, also came for visits.
The housing insanity that gripped the nation during COVID hasn't seemed to have let up much and I haven't had a bit of luck finding any place with land, reasonably priced, within a reasonable distance. For all that I didn't want to live in town, I'm glad I bought this place when I did. Otherwise, I would still be living in Gwen's basement!
The last couple of years have been challenging and stressful with many losses. So I have been and will continue to take some time away from Scott Valley Alpacas to heal. Of course, I still have projects on my knitting needles, a spinning wheel, and both looms!😊

Another year has flown by! It's been nearly a year since I last posted to this page. I might have been silent, but I certainly haven't been idle!!

I have been Very busy with getting settled in. Figuring out where to find what I need in Iowa and how to get there. Boxes to be unpacked, rooms to be organized. Including the loom room. Which includes THE loom. My oldest grandson helped me start putting the loom together. We ran into a snag, so Gwen came over a few weeks later to help me finish. It's a two person (minimum) job. Gwen and I managed to get it put together. I heard a loud thump at one point. I'm pretty sure that was John falling off his cloud laughing. It was certainly a learning experience for Gwen and me! Then, all those white string things had to be put on. They go on one...at...a...time. There are at least a zillion of them. It took a while. And then the loom had to be squared and everything adjusted. It's finally usable.

There are still a couple of boxes of books and misc. tools to be unpacked and more organizing to do in the loom room, but I'm making progress!

I also spent a few months designing a specialized knitted arm warmer. More about that in another post.

For now, I hope everyone has a HAPPY NEW YEAR!! 🎉

Apparently, when God opened the pasture gates for Rocky, He invited Simbah to come along, too. Simbah was 19. He shared nearly 17 years of his life with us.

We still don't know what happened with Rocky, but suspect Simbah was just a broken heart. Simbah and Rocky were not anything close to being best buddies, but I think this last loss was just too much for Simbah's heart.

Simbah was a silly suri. Always running and wanting to play. He loved birds and dogs. This has been an exceptionally hard blow, even though I knew when I left there was a strong possibility I wouldn't see him, again.

Good Night, Little Buddy. Rest well.

Rocky decided to move to greener pastures sometime during the night, a couple of nights ago. We have no idea why. He was 17.

Rocky was always a bit of a goof ball. One of my favorites of his funny little quirks was when he would be sleeping. He would be sound asleep, then suddenly jump up, race forward a few steps, then bounce and leap in a circle. Bad dream? Regardless, it never failed to make me laugh.

I've missed him terribly since I moved. I will miss him doubly so, now. Rest in Peace, Rocky Squirrel.

No picture of the yarn that I'm currently spinning, but here's a picture of the loom room. I've finished painting it (except for one closet door- I ran out of paint and the hardware store is out and hasn't been able to get more. Thanks, pandemic 😠), and most of the parts for the loom have been moved into the room. A couple of parts and assembly are just waiting on another pair of hands.

I'm most proud of the window well. I decided the best room for the loom was going to be in the basement (it's a much larger room than the second bedroom upstairs). But the window well was FULL of cobwebs and big, ugly spiders. Yuck!!! It has taken me weeks to get up the nerve (and a couple of cans of bug spray) to get that well cleaned up. Not only does it let in more light, now, I will actually be willing to escape out of the window if I have to. 😆

"Are you all settled, now?"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I did manage to find a house in this insane market. It's not what I had hoped for, but it is a nice house and will do, at least for the immediate future.
I am finally getting a chance to work on what will be the loom room. The ceiling is painted and a new light fixture has been installed on the ceiling. Painting the walls is next. The loom is so large, and assembling and disassembling it is such a challenge, that I want to make sure that any changes to the room are done Before I put the loom back together in there.
In the meantime, I have a spinning wheel up and running. As I get a few minutes here and there, I've been getting some spinning done. It's helping to keep me sane. 🤪 I'm currently working on a 3 ply outerwear yarn in alpaca and wool. I'll try to get a picture posted of it soon.
