And finally the story….Several of you have made comments about this piece of art. Maybe some of you were even appalled when you saw the sw****ka.
Good!
They say hindsight is 20 20 but that is only if we are willing to look at what really happened.
When referring to the Holocaust history points to dates between Jan 30th, 1933 when Hi**er became chancellor and May 8th, 1945 when the war officially ended, but trouble began long before then. It was gradual, an idea of hate gently laying around while everyone when about their business. The idea of hate began so simply that it really didn’t bother others. It was ignored by many. Other joined in the hate out of curiosity. Some that didn’t hate, over time became inflamed by other who did hate and the idea grew.
A quote From Gandhi,
“Your beliefs become your thoughts,
Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions,
Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.”
Sometimes we don't know how quickly this can happen. In the years before Jan 30th, 1933 a few had a belief. Between the dates of Jan 30th, 1933 and May 8th, 1945 a nation became embroiled towards a race of people and almost annihilated them. Some of the people who took part in this war were people like you and me. Many may have even been appalled at the idea of hate when they first hear it but they didn’t take action against it, instead, they did nothing, the lies kept growing and the hate became normal.
To quote Terry Goodkind from one of his books,
“People are stupid. They can be made to believe any lie because either they want to believe it's true or because they are afraid it's true.”
What lies are you believing?
What are you ignoring?
What is laying right under your nose while you do nothing?
What atrocity will you or your children be a part of because you choose not to look around and take action against lies and wrong beliefs?
Be careful when answering. I bet some of the pre-1933 Germans never believed they would be capable of a Holocaust.
In this piece of art the sand represents peace and people enjoying life, a seashell found, represents people going about their business as usual. A rolled up postcard from a family member sent to another, neatly written in German represents people involved in their own lives, not worried about their surroundings. The stamp with the sw****ka laying visible in the open represents how people walked around what was right under their nose and did nothing. The clear, glass button represents spiritual purity and value of a race that was determined to be dirty and of no value and almost destroyed. I hope you enjoy it.
