One of my favorite things about presenting at libraries is that we don't just taste chocolate—we create a community of curious people willing to slow down, notice, and discover something new.

Thank you to the wonderful patrons at West Babylon Public Library for joining me for Chocology 101.

Together, we explored how chocolate begins with a fruit, how origin influences flavor, and why all 77% chocolates are definitely not the same. Along the way, we traveled from cacao pod to chocolate bar, discovered the concept of terroir, and challenged our assumptions about chocolate.

A special thank-you to Goodnow Farms for allowing us to peek behind the scenes and see how craft chocolate is made--and of course your amazing chocolates.

Chocology will be closed on Sunday, June 21, as we take time to celebrate the people who have guided, encouraged, taught, and supported us.

As I've been putting together my Looking Back at 250 Years of American Chocolate presentation, I've been reflecting on a fact that continues to fascinate me...

Many people associate chocolate with Switzerland, Belgium, or France.

But cacao—the fruit that gives us chocolate—is actually native to the Americas.
Long before chocolate bars existed, Indigenous peoples in Mesoamerica were cultivating, preparing, and enjoying cacao. Thousands of years later, chocolate would become woven into America's story—from colonial kitchens and Benjamin Franklin to Hershey, World War II, and today's craft chocolate makers.

Chocolate may have become famous around the world, but its roots are right here in the Americas.
