The sound of countless records and multiple generations. The Gibson Southern Jumbo is a dressed-up J45 with multi-ply purfling, and pearl parallelogram inlays. Introduced in 1942, this model also features some interesting designs. Due to wartime materials restrictions, Gibson was unable to produce a steel truss rod. To compensate, they used a triangle-shaped maple rod to stiffen the neck. Because of that, these necks can truly be baseball bats! It doesn’t matter if it is a J45 or SJ; these guitars belong under a microphone and in the hands of those wishing to create music.
