My sincerest thanks to Steve Brown and ALL the Tesla guys for a great night of loud, in your face rock and roll, laughter galore, stories for days, and, well, friendship. 40 years of friendship. Wow. Frank Hannon, Brian Wheat, Jeff Keith, yes it's been that long! Dave Rude is the nicest guy. Glad to know ya, mate! Steve Emler ran the mains like a pro(wait, he is!) and the Pearl River Resort in Philadelphia, Mississippi will never be the same. As they say, a good time was had by all.

Ok, these guys had been around for over a decade before they signed with Led Zeppelin's management AND record company and they had been through a few personnel changes over the years with stylistic turns along the way. Silk Torpedo was the first of their two Swan Song albums, preceding Savage Eye by a year, and the harder rocking of the two. Obviously aiming at the American market, these guys laid it on the line and this track features a blistering guitar solo courtesy of one Pete Tolson. Turn it up, man!

Ok, the genesis(pun intended) for this song was inspired by Chester Thompson's drum pattern on a Weather report tune called Nubian Sundance from their Mysterious Traveller album back in '74. The drum beat is nearly identical but the music soars to such heights that one overlooks the similarities and simply falls into the avalanche of melodies throughout. For our money, Wind and Wuthering is the best post Gabriel Genesis album ever.

Aaahhh.....Slicky!! The great wonderful and loud Earl Slick, before he jumped on board with the Thin White Duke. ESB made 2 albums for Capitol, the second one the better one and this tune the appropriate closer to the album.

Great hard rocker from the short-lived Earl Slick Band (1976) album Razor Sharp. Written by all four members, Jimmie Mack (guitar and vocal) Earl Slick (guit...

The classic English twin lead guitar band(Thin Lizzy are Irish) from the early 70's to this day. A favorite of our beloved "Cousin John"(a name bestowed upon him by Steve Behrmann) who was a renowned drummer in his own right and a good man and who left us too soon.

During the final year or so of Replay, Alex and I played this album constantly in the store as it seemed to fit the mood of the place at the time, this song in particular. We'll be posting more tunes from those courageous days as we go along, hopefully with an anecdote or two to go with the song...

Terry Kath era Chicago is the one that leaves a true legacy, one rich with musical adventures in many different directions(sometimes all at once). Despite the wonderfully upbeat and cheerful hit "Saturday In The Park" the rest of the band's fourth studio album is progressive bordering a bit on the avant-garde at times and definitely not easy listening. Case in point: A Hit For Varese(an homage as well), whereby the band sounds a lot like Emerson Lake and Palmer with horns.

Anyone could pick any number of incredible songs to be sure here, but we just saw the Bowie celebration last night w/ Mike Garson, Earl Slick, etc.,and Charlie Sexton's rendition of this one was stellar. Enjoy.

Montrose(the band) inevitably gets the "rock behemoth" tag and rightfully so, even after Sammy left and the dubious Bob James stepped in with a completely different approach, more akin to a John Waite than a hard rock vocalist. That said, this tune shows the more reflective nature of Ronnie's songwriting(which is suited to James' vocals) and offers what might just be the most dramatic and soulful guitar solo of his career, rivaled only by his rendition of Town Without Pity, and that's saying something.
