Q: Do you keep your hardback jackets?

It may sound like an odd Q to some but I have a friend who THROWS THE JACKETS AWAY before putting her new hardcovers on the shelf!

Part of me breaks off a little every time I see it! šŸ˜‚

But then, part of me respects the nerve it takes to treat your own books however the heck you want.

Meanwhile, I’m over here trying to keep my hardcover books as pristine as possible . . . unless they’re nonfic, in which case I tab every chapter and scribble up the margins šŸ˜Ž

Anyway, enjoy this little game featuring some of our fav 2025 hardcover releases and drop your score below!

This post may lose some followers but we can’t stay silent. I felt hope watching the halftime show, so I put this together. Maybe it will inspire even more hope yet.

I’ll share/reshare more helpful resources as I find them, but here are a few quick actions to start:

Visit 5calls.org — ā€œthe easiest and most effective way for U.S. constituents to make a political impactā€ — and call your state reps. Read the scripts provided to address the issues you care most about (like supporting immigrant families, or telling Bondi it’s time for the TRUTH).

Join local immigration advocacy groups and their mailing lists to stay informed about activity in your area.

Look up your local and state elections and learn which candidates are in running in support of immigrant justice.

Donate to organizations like the ACLU who fight for our freedoms on a daily basis.

READ for empathy, for wisdom, for joy, and for a better future for all.

Happy National Letter Writing Week (woah, tongue twister)!

I don’t know about you but I get SO excited when I see a letter in a book - I often have to cover the page with the letter so I don’t skip ahead and see a spoiler!

Do you have a rec for a book that uses letters as a literary device? Please share! I would LOVE to see more books with letters!

We’re kicking off 2026 with some autobiographies, castles, and strong FMCs!

What I’m (Kym) reading:
ā€œIn the Rhododendronsā€ by Heather Christle
ā€œSatori in Parisā€ by Jack Kerouac
ā€œBorn a Crimeā€ by Trevor Noah
ā€œMatrixā€ by Lauren Goff
ā€œHeir of Fireā€ by Sarah J Maas
ā€œWhen the Moon Hatchedā€ by Sarah A Parker

What Karen’s () is reading:
ā€œAnxious Peopleā€ by Fredrik Backman
ā€œThe Knight and the Mothā€ by Rachel Gillis
ā€œTomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrowā€ by Gabrielle Zevin

I don’t know what it is about the new year that always draws me to biographies.

Maybe I just get inspired by others’ achievements.

Do you have a genre that you find yourself reading every new year?

I wonder if librarians notice a change in the types of books people check out in January.

More self-help books, maybe?

Or a flux in library card applications, like gym memberships? Hm šŸ¤”

Anyway! Off to grab 2026 by the horns! Wish me luck

So here’s what’s on the slate for this month! Are we reading the same of anything?

I’m on track bc I’ve been absolutely DEVOURING TOG so far… the question is, will I be able to pause midseries to read other genres? I like to diversify, but it might be hard, if TOG stays this interesting!

Do you make a point to read other genres or plow through one series before moving on?

Decisions, decisions! šŸ¤”šŸ˜‹

It’s ! Today we’ve styled Tay Dove from The Bookshop of Hidden Dreams by AKA Mama Hawkins šŸ˜‹

Featuring:
✨ Free Societies Tee (by us!) bc as a history prof, she has zero tolerance for erasing history
✨ Back to School Bookworm tumbler (also by us) for coffee while researching with the MMC to unlock her family’s big secret 🤐
✨ Reading Poster Meme Tote (also also by us) to haul books and archives back from the bookstore
✨ Viral Amazon Parka (it’s a thing, look it up! šŸ˜‚) because she’s a trendy professor so she’s in the know
✨ Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars bc she is a woman of comfort over style

This was a fun one, and I really enjoyed reading my mother’s book. Hope I wasn’t too far off the mark styling her character! šŸ˜‹

Here’s my November wrap up!

Started slow on my hopefuls with a few leftovers from last month, then a solid week and a half of earphones being MIA 😫

Unexpected themes across this list were: doomed ships, displacement/can’t go back home, houses and homes, bureaucracy bad, characters with book recs, sexism in the work place, Stockholm syndrome, more money more problems, double meanings in titles, time travel, nonlinear timelines, and history flashbacks

Favorite book: The Knight and The Moth

Devoured in one day: The Bookshop of Hidden Dreams

Unexpected cry: Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow
