Change is in the air, and it feels beautifully aligned. 🌿

After a wonderful couple of years on the corner of Water & 4th, it’s time for us to simplify our lives and bring our energy home to the .

We’re combining Ovid & Lane and Essentially Zen Shop into one shared space on Beverley Street — a place that reflects who we are now: intentional, creative, and grounded on the same side of the Blue Ridge.

For those of you who have ordered bulk or custom gifts for the holidays, nothing will change — your orders are in motion and will be ready right on schedule. 🎁

This isn’t goodbye to Charlottesville so much as a coming together. Every bar of soap, every bouquet, and every moment of support you’ve given us helped make this next step possible. 💫

Our mission remains the same — Self-Care with a Conscience crafted with heart, purpose, and intention; and we can’t wait to welcome you to our new home soon. You’ll find us in a larger space with a creative lab dedicated to formulating the eco-friendly bath and body favorites everyone loves, including our signature and soon-to-be-famous of seasonal reed diffusers. 💫

Yesterday brought a reminder of how fragile and important mental health is — and how complicated these moments can be for small businesses.

A man came into the shop in visible crisis. At first he seemed eccentric, but very quickly it became clear he could have been detoxing, high, or experiencing an acute mental health episode. He told me he hadn’t slept in days, that voices led him here, and that he needed a spell removed.

I gave him a rose quartz heart — something I keep on hand for anyone who might need a little light. For a moment, that helped. But as the situation unfolded, I had to balance empathy with caution, compassion with safety.

For small business owners — especially those of us working alone — this is a very real tension. Who do you call? How do you help without escalating things?

This experience reminded me of a few things we can all carry with us:
💗 People in crisis often just need kindness.
🌿 Your safety matters, too.
✨ Our community needs more mental health resources, and we, as a nation, as a society, can’t afford to ignore that.

We’re the Zen shop. We do zen stuff. But we’re also part of a bigger conversation about how we as a community take care of one another.
