Did you know that books and manuscripts do not generally require "white gloves" when handling them? It's a fact. What are required are clean, dry, bare hands. Museums, libraries, and galleries do not use gloves, because they are considered a danger to paper, not a protection.

The following article, which was originally published in International Preservation News, explains the controversy.

There is a consensus that only the following require gloves: Metals, Painted furniture, Lacquered or gilded surfaces, Anything made from plaster, Taxidermy, Geological specimens, Plastics, Photographic items, Unglazed ceramics, Human and animal remains.
