I have watched this heart breaking video over and over again. Please give her a follow and show her some love and support from America.
The recent looting in Paris raises a serious question. How can we stop these stolen goods from flooding the secondary market!!! There are some actions we can take:
• Request available purchase records and ownership history.
• Photograph identifying details and record serial numbers where present. Ask retail store staff to fact check for you in their system(We have done that so many times with Chanel, the staff are friendly and was willing to help).
• For watches and jewellery, check relevant lost-and-stolen databases, such as Enquirus and The Watch Register.
• Investigate warning signs: altered identifiers, inconsistent stories, unusually low prices for big load of new stock.
When we ran a consignment shop, we required every consignor to provide valid government-issued ID, which we kept on file. We would also hold the merchandise for 14 days before selling just in case.
We also hope luxury brands will create accessible channels for the public and independent resellers to verify product identities and check reported thefts.
Responsible resale can complement luxury retail: preserving craftsmanship, introducing new collectors, and keeping beautiful pieces in circulation.
Retailers and resellers are not enemies by the end of the day, we can build a safer and more eco-friendly system together!
