If your feeders seem a little quieter in June, don't worry... it's completely normal!
Right now, birds have plenty of natural food to choose from, including insects, buds and berries. Many adult birds spend their days gathering soft, protein-rich insects, spiders and larvae to feed hungry nestlings, so they may visit feeders less often.
The good news? Later this month, as fledglings leave the nest and start exploring the world, feeder activity usually picks up again as parents introduce their young to reliable food sources so be ready! ๐ฃ๐
Want to help your backyard birds through nesting season?
๐ Offer protein-rich foods like live or dried mealworms to support busy parents and growing young.
๐ Keep food fresh. Summer heat can cause seed to spoil quickly, and traditional suet can melt. Replace old seed regularly and switch to a no-melt suet.
๐ง Add water! A clean, dependable birdbath is one of the best ways to attract birds during the summer, even species that rarely visit feeders.
