C.S. Lewis Collection:
The greatness of Lewis’ writings goes without saying. He was a man who perceived reality through a clear lens, as opposed to the warped ideological lens of his counterparts. Being close friends with J.R.R. Tolkien, he had much exposure to traditional Christianity, even writing an introduction for St. Athanasius’ On the Incarnation. It is evident in his writings that he read St. Athanasius at face value, understanding that the purpose of the Christian life is attainment of personal union with God. He wrote the following, narrated by a senior devil named Screwtape, in The Screwtape Letters: “He [God] did not create the humans—He did not become one of them and die among them by torture—in order to produce ‘failed’ humans. He wanted to make Saints; gods; things like Himself,” (193). The impact Lewis has had on many peoples’ lives is indescribable. He has brought many men and women to the Orthodox Church, by feeding them their first taste of historic Christianity and leaving them curious. This set of his works makes a great gift for an Orthodox or non-Orthodox Christian relative, which may inspire them to learn more about those sources that C.S. Lewis was pulling from. It also looks really good on the shelf! While you are at it check out the many other fine titles we have in our bookstore.
