✨ Did you know? These chimes are made from a mollusk sometimes called the “jingle oyster” due to the lovely jingling sound they produce. They are also a zero waste product! The community harvests the mollusks and eats the meat, artisans turn the layers of the inner shell into beautiful crafts like these chimes, and farmers grind down the outer shell to use as a nitrogen-fixing fertilizer!

We will have a pop up sale from the Re-Craft Lab , henna art from our friends at Mahima Project, lots of samples of tasty fair trade goods, a chance to try out some of our fair trade crafts for yourself, a gift with every purchase(!), and more!

Happy International Worker’s Day!
When I lived in France, my favorite thing about May 1st (besides you know, actually celebrating and respecting workers’ rights) was the tradition of gifting bouquets of lily of the valley. Nearly all businesses are closed for the day, but vendors pop up on street corners to sell little white bouquets to passers by. These beautiful felt coasters and trivets always remind me of May Day in France, and more importantly, they are an opportunity to celebrate the labor of the talented artisans in Nepal who created them.

We stand in solidarity with the general strike and with protesters around the country. Kizuri will be open today and donating 10% of sales to the Eastern Washington Refugee Coalition. We are honored to be a community space, welcoming to all, and working to change the system every day in ways big and small. It’s never “business as usual” at Kizuri; justice is baked into everything we do.

This may be controversial, but I actually think you *should* spend money today. Not just anywhere — use today as an excuse to really get intentional about where your money is going. Divest from the corporations that are actively accelerating the rise of fascism in America and seek out immigrant-owned and other values-aligned businesses to support.

Today is an excellent day to eat at Arabian Palace, De Leon’s, Lebanon Cafe, or Feast (just to name a few!). Immigrant-owned businesses need us to show up for them now more than ever.

If you would like to shop at Kizuri today, 10% of sales through the weekend (Friday and Saturday in store + any online sales through Sunday) will go to the Eastern Washington Refugee Coalition, which supports .international.spokane and Spokane.
