Fall fly fishing on the Spokane, NFCDA and St. Joe rivers have been exciting for those who make the effort and find the good holding water of these systems. There's nothing like wading a river in the fall with the Tamarack's turning bright yellow against the Evergreens, the sound of the river and the smell of fall in the air. Then you're interrupted by a fish. Here at Swede's we have numerous "go to" patterns that are very effective this time of year and our tying team has been working overtime just to keep up with the demand. So stop by and load up on favorite fall patterns before your next trip. Our guiding on local rivers and lakes has also been very busy, as the fall time of the year is one of the best times to book a trip with us, so consider letting us get you into some of that great seasonal fly fishing.

Swede's Fly Shop is scheduling basic Fly Fishing clinics beginning on the the first Saturday of each month from 10:00am to 12:00pm. Register now as space is limited.

Swede's is also scheduling beginning Fly Tying classes, also on the first Saturday of each month from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. Sign up is available on F.C.F.S. Fly tying tools are recommended.

Sign up now for Fly Casting clinics, a comprehensive session on the dynamics of fly line casting. A two hour local clinic on one of the basic fundamentals of fly fishing. By appointment only.

If you have been following Alan Liere's articles in the Spokesman Review on fly fishing there have been numerous fly fishing reports available usually on Thursdays in which Swede's Fly Shop has been contributing to on a regular basis.
The shop is now back open Monday through Friday on normal business hours from 10:00am to 6:00pm, but because of the COVID alert, we have been temporarily closing at 5:30pm during the week. We are open on Saturdays from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Closed Sundays.
Because of social distancing we have temporarily suspended our fly tying clinics and guiding on the rivers and lakes. We will notify everyone when we can resume "normal" grip n grins. If you plan on stopping by the shop, please don't forget to wear a mask please.
Hope you all are taking advantage of this recent beautiful weather and getting out to your favorite stream or lake. Make sure you have a steady supply of our Olive Willy's and Electric Buggers, as fall of the year provides some of the best fly fishing locally and ID, MT and BC.
September is my favorite time of the year to visit the NFCDA and the St. Joe rivers as the Tamaracks are blazing with yellow and gold colors against the backdrop of Evergreens, combined with the sound of the river as it works it's way downstream integrated with the small of fall in the air and occasional chirp of an eagle. Then I'm interrupted by a fish. It is spiritual my friends.

This coming Saturday March 7th Swede's will be offering a beginning fly fishing clinic from 10:00am to 12:00pm. This is a basic overall lecture on the necessary gear, flies, strategies, understanding how fish feed and improving on your fly fishing abilities here in the region. The cost includes clinic handout and is limited to 6 people per session. Please call or stop by the shop to register.

It's starting to cool down, and the fish are getting more active as they begin feeding up for the winter. Pretty soon, the big brownies will be on the move, as they start going into Pre-Spawn. The Onocosmoecus (Great Late Summer Sedge) Hatch is soon upon us as well. Best tied in sizes 6-10, it is a very effective Caddis Pattern. Don't forget folks, we have a three day weekend coming up on Labor Day, and plenty of spots to fill. So call, and book your Guided Fly Fishing Excursion today!! We hope to hear from you soon!!
