Today we honor Juneteenth, the day in 1865 when news of freedom finally reached enslaved Americans in Texas—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
Juneteenth stands as a reminder that freedom, equality, and opportunity are ideals worth celebrating and protecting. As we reflect on our nation’s history, we also recognize the resilience, contributions, and achievements of generations of Black Americans who have helped shape the United States.
Today, we commemorate a milestone in America’s journey toward a more perfect union.
