I just wrapped up a cleanup of this factory monte-carlo stocked Lefever E grade.

The wood was very dark but was solid and did not really need any repair work. It just needed to be brightened up and made to look a little newer.

The stock oval had to be re-set as it was pushing out of the wood. After a light sanding, The wood figure really came out with refinishing. The checkering was deepened and the action completely cleaned.

This Parker CHE 20g was in for stock repair, refinishing and cleaning. It is a 30” damascus gun. The barrels were separately sent out for finishing by the owner.

The stock head had some internal damage and chipping/cracking around the inletting which I had to repair before a light sanding and oil finishing. All of the checkering was recut. Action completely stripped and cleaned.

I am working on a Harrington & Richardson A grade and before I send the barrels out for finishing, I needed to make a new extractor for it. The one that was in it was all cobbled up and sloppy. And the guide pin was even made from an old machine screw.

I started with a new old stock Parker extractor blank which then needed a good amount of modification and fitting, but it all turned out very good.

In 2012 I made a significant discovery of a Parker on display in the Re*****on Museum and identified it as a prototype gun made by Parker Bros. Designer James P. Hayes. An earlier prototype (1910-1912) made by him was known about, but the fully finished prototype in the museum (1929) had never before been documented.
I was able to research the gun and wrote a lengthly article for Doublegun Journal that was published in Summer of 2013. And then a condensed version published in Parker Pages.

After the publishing of these articles, I was able to acquire the earlier prototype from the Hayes family, about 10 years ago. As well as a letter from Hayes to Parker management about the gun. I intended to write a detailed piece on just this gun, but did not get around to it.

Any thoughts of being able to actually own the 1929 prototype was simply a dream since it was in the Re*****on Museum. However with the breakup of the company and the active selloff of the archives, that dream has become a reality. I was able to purchase it and I now own both Hayes prototype Parkers.

This will give me the opportunity to study this gun fully and document it for the community.

This Lefever DS was left with me by a friend who started refinishing the wood and after an acetone soak he found that half of the butt of the stock was filler or something. What was left was a butt that was oddly shaped and not really workable. He wanted me to try and figure something out.

What I decided to do was a butt transplant. Normally this is done using a new wood block on the back half, but in this case I used a finished donor stock. Which limits you for dimensions and such, but it was the easiest option to solve the problem and minimize the expense put into the gun. All finished up it looks good and is functional.

This high grade Parker from the first year or two of production (serial 2300 range) has a very different style of decorative grip that is rare, but not unique. I have seen a couple of other examples like this.

The gun is an 11ga and the barrels are in very poor condition. They are thin, dented and cracked. So it is not a shooter, but due to the rarity of it, the owner wanted it made to look more presentable.

I cleaned the wood and repaired a head crack. As well as repaired a large crack in the toe. Fresh finish was applied and the original checkering recut. The gold shield from the top of the wrist was missing, so a new one was made and installed.

The barrel lockup was super loose, so that was corrected with a new bolt and a new fitted bite insert.

A follower of my page here contacted me a while back about doing some work on bis families old Parker 8ga hammer gun. The gun had always been on the Eastern shore of Maryland and was heavily used in those conditions during the heyday of its life.

It has 36” barrels and is built on a 7 frame. The largest frame Parker made guns on.

The gun was very rusty with a broken stock and it was missing its hammers. The goal was to make the gun whole and functional.

I had to disassemble everything on the action which was tough in some areas due to how rusty it was. I found a few damaged and missing parts in the locks. The stock head was broken into 4 pieces internally. And the wood was just black with caked grime.

The wood was thoroughly soaked to clean it and facilitate repair and reinforcement of the stock head. And then a mild refinish with pil was done as well as a checkering recut. Being a grade 2 gun, the wood has some nice figure in the butt, which now shows well enough.

I put hammers on the gun from a grade 1 parts gun and replaced a few screws. It was not a concern to have parts engraved as they should be for a grade 2 gun since this was just a functional restoration.

I surface cleaned the barrels and bores of the heavy rust and the bores are actually in pretty decent shape given how bad the gun was.
