Yanesha Native Community
our new coffee discovered just couple months ago from Peru.
Our commitment to sustainable practices is reflected in the methods our group of farmers employ, transforming each bean from its humble beginnings to your coffee experience.

Nurturing the Rainforest:

Sunrise Trading’s coffee is found in the lush, verdant forests of the Peruvian High Jungle. Our cultivators, many of whom are members of the Yanesha Indigenous Community, understand the delicate balance of the rainforest and its importance. They embrace a philosophy of sustainable cultivation:

Shade-Grown Practices: Coffee beans thrive in the shade of the rainforest canopy, providing natural protection and a balanced microclimate. This practice protects the ecosystem and ensures the long-term sustainability of the land.
Organic Cultivation: Our farmers prioritize organic methods, without the use of harmful pesticides and fertilizers, safeguarding the soil and the environment. This ensures a healthier rainforest and enhances the natural flavor of the beans.
Respect for Tradition: These practices reflect the Yanesha community's deep connection to the land, their respect for their ancestors, and their commitment to sustainable practices passed down through generations.

Today we are sending gratitude to 3 GRANDE sponsors of the Driftless Region's Dia de Mu***os Celebration. Keewaydin Farms is our land host, flower farm, and foundational supporter. Tortilleria Zepeda has also been with us from the beginning and taken on an organizer role for the Taste of Dia de Mu***os Tour this year, and I'm so thankful for their help. They really put the corn in cornerstone! And last, but definitely not least, we're sending a big shoutout to the Wisconsin Humanities for supporting us with a major grant award to host the 2024 Driftless Region's Dia de Mu***os Celebration. Muchas Gracias! We'll see you on Saturday, October 5th from 2 PM to 7 PM for the 4th annual celebration!

Hello friends we are looking for partnerships with local cafes, restaurants, coffee shops and specialty stores, to join us and use our specialty small family farm coffee. This is a organic, bird friendly and sustainable produced with certification of Rain Forest Alliance; please join us in this effort to create awareness and education about consuming sustainable and not commercial or industrial coffees that are promoted by large coffee companies.

The commitment to offer to our community best organic practices with no use of pesticides and caring of the environment, makes possible bird migration and Monarch butterfly to migrate every year and comeback to our lands.

Memories of the land of Coffee.

Chapter 1.

Huehuetenango was occupied by the Spanish taking over the Indigenous land, while the conquistador was working as Mayor of the town of “ La Libertad” Spanish descendants bought the land to the new government and start coffee nurseries; little by little Huehuetenango became the Second Growing zone of Guatemalan coffee production back in the 18th. Century.
My grandfather got his first parcel of coffee in 1940, it was raw land with “Cafeto Trees” and a little shack, he also become the Mayor of this town while he needed to travel to the Capital City of Guatemala, to arrange city work; he couldn't wait to share to everyone how good for coffee the land was.

After noticing the perfect growing conditions of the Rainforest in Huehuetenango, many Spanish descendants bought land in these rich soils, different from Antigua Volcanic land, located in the “Central Valley” by Guatemala city, the First Growing Area.

Comparing the flavor from Antigua; spice, floral, roasted, and occasionally cocoa sections, The Antigua region is protected by the Volcanoes, influencing its flavors and giving it a slightly dryer and more powerful kick; while Huehuetenango flavors are known for a distinctly sweet acidity to them, with fruity notes of citrus, strawberry, and/or plum, and occasional cocoa.
