Daily winter riding tip #4: stay warm. get good gloves. chose gloves that are impermeable to wind as cold air will pe*****te them. ski gloves are good as well. cover your neck and mouth: a thick balaklava, neck gaiter or a long scarf wrapped around your neck, mouth and nose will do the job just fine. here's a secret: when you breath through it your breath will warm you up. coat: get a coat or jacket that is windproof similar to ski jackets or just a thick with a goose down, preferably one that reaches under your waistline. this way when you are leaning forward your back will not be exposed. Stay warm and keep on riding!

Daily winter riding tips #3: Lights, especially a rear light can save your life. turn your lights on during the day not only at night or dusk. car drivers are busier than usual while driving in snowy and cold condition and are less likely to see you. the video here is for a light made by trek but honestly any light will do. if you already have a light, use it. Try to get the strongest light you can. Even install two rear lights. make sure to apply the blinker mode not idle. most battery lights last 100 hours and rechargeables at least 2 hours so don't try to save power. Stay safe out there!

Bike lights during dark hours is a no-brainer, but should we be running them during the daytime too? Recent studies suggest there could be a benefit, so we s...

Winter Bike maintenance tip #2: oil your chain at least once every 2 weeks. in the winter months try to use an oil that goes wet and stays wet like Tri-flow or finish line wet l**e. try not to use WD40 but if that's all you got, it will do. you'll just need to apply more often. replenish the oil especially after riding in snow, rain or when the roads are wet. They all will wash away the oil off of your chain.Do not flip your bike upside down on the ground. Instead, lean it on a wall and pedal backwards, avoid dripping or spraying oil on the rims and brakes by oiling at a spot away from them. everyone can do this. yes you too.

Winter maintenance daily tips series starts today. First tip: tires deflate during the cold months because air contracts when it is cooled. pump your tires at least once a week. find out your max PSI, it is marked on the sidewall of your tire. pump it to about 10% less than max air pressure, your bike will be more controllable and you'll experience more predictive steering. you'll need a pump with a gauge.
Stay tuned for tip number 2. let us know if you have any questions in the meantime. Stay safe out there!
