It was 168 years ago today when the first passenger train traveled over the Flemington Railroad Company rails from Lambertville to Flemington on December 4th, 1854! The train departed Lambertville at 10:30am for Flemington with the locomotive "Alexauken" leading. Passengers rode free of charge on the inaugural run. 168 years later, the Black River & Western continues to run over the same historic railroad corridor!

Today is , and we're reaching to you all to give a bit either to United Way of Hunterdon County, the Black River & Western or both. We have a donation bin inside our Flemington Station for collections of newly unopened toys and personal hygiene products for the United Way of Hunterdon County's Holiday Hands program. These donations will go to a good cause helping local Hunterdon County families in need. The Black River Railroad Historical Trust, a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity that operates excursion trains over the BR&W, is always welcoming to receiving donations big and small to help with our numerous projects such as maintaining No. 60 and our passenger car fleet, maintaining our properties and preparing various events. Consider giving a donation to either cause or both if you'd like! For more information on United Way of Hunterdon County and their Holiday Hands program, visit their website at www.uwhunterdon.org/our-programs/holiday-hands. For donations to the Black River Railroad Historical Trust, visit our website at www.blackriverrailroad.com and find the Donation tab through the Buy Tickets Now button. Any donation helps. Thank you for your consideration.

It's , and we have a big announcement! Some of you may have noticed a peculiar 3-chime whistle as No. 60's voice over the weekend. That would be an American Steam Gauge & Valve Co. industrial 3-chime whistle produced in Boston, MA, and it has a unique history. The whistle was used for fire drills for many, many years at Ingersoll Rand's Phillipsburg, New Jersey factory. We believe the whistle dates to around 1920, making it around 17 years older than 60. This whistle is the first the Black River Railroad Historical Trust (the entity that operates passenger excursions on the BR&W) can claim as their own. We're quite excited about our new toy! We want to extend a huge thank you to Mr. Ron Titus and his Phillipsburg Union (PU) Tower group for this very gracious donation. The whistle will be 60's voice for a majority of the Santa Express and North Pole Express trains.
