I guess like Swedish things. I’m married to a Swedish American woman, I owned and loved a few old Volvo 240’s and a couple of more modern Volvo S and V70’s. I’ve even owned a couple of old Saab’s over the years that I was very fond of. I really like this Swedish bass on my bench today. This one was made in the early to mid 60’s and has been owned by the same guy for many years. He hasn’t babied it, but he has played it and enjoyed it. Despite not being babied, everything on this bass still works perfectly and still looks great. I’m astonished the pickup selector buttons still work! I recently had a 1976 Volvo 244 that the odometer quit working at 250k miles. I had no idea how many miles it actually had, but it started every time you turned the key and the engine sounded great. That’s the end of my Swedish rant. Thanks for hanging in there 😁

Late 60’s Harmony H82 Rebel hot off the bench. This one was in for a full refret, bone nut, and a minor electronic repair. Hard to top the green burst finish! Harmony sure made some cool guitars back in the day.

A pair of cool old Gibson’s are headed back home after spending some time on my workbench. These both had some cracks, loose braces, and some other odds and ends that are common for old Gibson’s. And yes, both of these guitars sound as good as they look

Just finished up a big project today. This is a 1930’s or early 40’s Harmony made Marvel DeLuxe acoustic archtop guitar. Solid mahogany top, back and sides. Spanish cedar neck. Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and bridge. It’s light as a feather and sounds great! This one needed a neck reset, refret, some crack repairs, and a few other odds and ends. It’s a family heirloom for the owner, so that made it extra fun to restore.

This cool old late 1960’s Epiphone had a bad case of binding rot. Fortunately it had only affected the outermost layer of binding on the body so that is what was carefully removed and replaced. The new binding will still need to be scraped down flush and level with the old finish and some finish touch up will be needed to blend the new binding in with the original finish. These are slow and tedious jobs, but very satisfying when finished.

Popping the neck on a 1969 D28 this morning. This one was made in 1969 which makes it the last year Brazilian rosewood was used on standard D28’s. This guitar was suffering from high action and no saddle left to adjust, so it was time for its first neck reset. This was the 3rd neck removal in the shop this week. I’ll show some pics of the other two as I go. They’re both also very cool old guitars.

Lots of neck resets happening in the shop lately. I’m looking forwarding to hearing this old Sovereign once the glue dries and I can make a new saddle and set it up.
