Dave's RC Electronics

Dave's RC Electronics Custom, hand-built electronic circuits designed to improve and enhance the fun and thrill of radio-controlled models. Repair electronic devices.

We build high-quality and useful devices to help those in the Radio Control community enjoy their hobby even more. With a background in electronics, I have skills the average R/C'er may not have, and it allows me to design circuits that make our models more fun, more scale like, and our flights more successful. Over the last couple of years our business has grown to include the repair of electronic devices like cell phones, lap-top computers, tablet PCs, TVs, and gaming consoles.

l like sharing pictures sent to us by happy customers, these were submitted by Tim F., who lives way up in Maine! Tim did a great job of installing a set of our Basic NavLights-8mm in a plane that looks a lot like a typical high-wing trainer, I think I can see the bands that hold the wing on crossing over the top of the wing. This kit is available with either a red strobe (like Tim's) or a white strobe, and the landing lights can be switched on/off from the transmitter. These pictures just go to show that you don't have to have a big, expensive model to benefit from installing a set of navigation lights. Navigation lights not only add a measure of "bling" to your model, they also increase visibility in all conditions, but especially on cloudy days or at dusk. Thanks Tim!

Today I have a couple of YouTube video to share from Ryan A. from Arlington, Texas. Ryan asked me to build him a set of "custom" navigation lights for his electric Turbo Bushmaster that had the standard compliment of wingtip, strobes, and landing lights that most Bushmasters have, but he also wanted to be able to switch the landing lights from a "solid on" to a "wig-wag" pattern. We were able to do this with some of our legendary programming magic, (🙄) and these videos show the result of his excellent installation of the set. The first video is a walkaround of the model on the ground, and the second was a flight made at dusk-thirty. Thanks for sharing, Ryan!

One last video to share, this is from Jeff N., and it's a series of pictures, and one video, of his installation of a set of our Deluxe Afterburner Kit in his ducted fan jet. I'm not sure brand or model this is, but it's an ARF, and Jeff included a few pictures showing how he installed the LED Strip Lights and routed the wires inside the fuse. The video shows the completed afterburner, this is the version that lights the afterburner when the throttle stick is all the way high (WOT). Jeff has actually installed a couple of these kits in his jets, thanks for sharing these with us Jeff!

Here are a couple of pictures of Jon's 450-size Flywing Bell 206. Jon M. used a set of our All-in-1 NavLights with 3mm LEDs, and installed them beautifully on this model. Many helicopter models have small areas that make installing some lights difficult, but our 3mm LEDs can be mounted on or in most any surface and still provide good illumination and scale looks. Nice job, Jon!

This next video is not something you're gonna see very day, this was sent to us by John S. in Michigan of his Iron Man drone. Yep, you read that right, he built a flying Iron Man, complete with lights on the hands, feet, and chest. John used our Afterburner LEDs to make the lights on his hands and feet "flicker" like the real thing. (OK, wait, I know Iron Man wasn't "real", but ... you know what I mean!) We also provided some 3-watt COB LEDs for the chest and the hands, and John used LED Strip Lights for the feet. For anyone else who has a project that could use the Afterburner effect, we have a version of it that is "on" all the time, that's what John used for his build. This is slick, totally slick!

It's been a while since I've added any new customer videos, (things have been really busy around the shop!), so I thought I should post some of the best ones I've received over the last several months.

First up is a set of 8mm Navigation lights that Darren R. installed on his electric DeHavilland Beaver. I'm not sure about the wingspan or the brand on this model, maybe Darren can fill us in on that, but they look really nice. This set includes wingtip navigation lights, wingtip strobes, a (red) strobe for the fuse, and features our wig-wag pattern on the landing lights. The wig-wag pattern is common on many bush or float planes, because it doesn't compromise the pilot's peripheral vison when landing, and is highly visible from the ground. Notice that the landing lights don't just "strobe" or flash, but they fade in and out together in a unique pattern. Check out all the planes on the walls, on the desk, everywhere in the background. Darren loves planes like I love planes!

Cross posting this from my business fb page, 'cause I figure we all could use a good laugh about now...

Well, life goes on. This is my first post on my business's fb page since my beloved wife went to Heaven, and maybe it's fitting. She would have laughed so hard at this!

Recently a customer, Joe F., asked me to build him a set of lights. Nothing unusual about that, right? Except this was for a rocket he was building. He had some very specific (and unusual) specs for this build, and I was glad to tackle the project. He just sent me a video of the finished masterpiece, it's a Minion Rocket. Be sure to turn your volume up, he has added audio that will crack you up. Well done, Joe, well done!

Hey Everybody! This coming Tuesday evening at 8:30 p.m. I am going to be appearing with the guys at Jeff's Custom RC on their weekly streaming program called "FLIGHT CLUB". We will be talking about the navigation light kits we stock for some of the models being sold by the awesome folks at Legend Hobby. We'll be demonstrating the kit for the T-28 Trojan, we'll take a look at the ARF Navigation Lights kits we make that replace the controllers that come with some of their planes, and we'll look at some other parts and circuits that may be useful in building a Legend Hobby model. Jeff and Wayne have been documenting their build of a Legend Hobby T-28 for several weeks now, so this will be a good chance for any of you who have, or are planning to purchase this kit to see what's available in the way of lighting for it. This will also be a good time for any of you who may have been thinking about putting lights in one of your planes to see what's involved and get some tips on how it's done.

I recommend that you go ahead and check out their YouTube channel NOW, and be sure to subscribe, so you don't miss out. They have some great episodes archived on the site, you'll learn a lot and have a chance to see some things that are out there that you may not even know about. The link to their channel is below. I'm really looking forward to the show this coming Tuesday evening, and I hope that a lot of our customers who have already purchased lights from us will tune in, and maybe call in during the show, to tell us how your project turned out and maybe offer some tips for the viewers. I hope to "see" you all then!

Hey guys....this is a great hobby and one of the best communities of people I’ve ever spent time with. My channel is focused on customizing and building plan...
