Raising 3 Queens with Royal Intent isn’t just a phrase — it’s a purpose. For the Black dad who’s guiding his daughters with strength, love, and legacy in mind. Every decision, every lesson, every hug — it’s all intentional. Because they’re not just little girls… they’re royalty in the making.

On February 4, 1913, Rosa Parks, the civil rights icon known for her role in the Montgomery Bus Boycott, was born in Tuskegee, Alabama. While many know her famous act of defiance on December 1, 1955, a lesser-known fact is that Parks was not just a tired seamstress—she was a seasoned activist and investigator for the NAACP.

Before her arrest, Parks worked to document cases of racial violence and sexual assault against Black women, including the case of Recy Taylor, who was attacked by white men in 1944. Parks' activism extended far beyond the bus boycott, as she continued to fight for racial and social justice throughout her life.

In honor of her contributions, February 4th is recognized as Rosa Parks Day in some states, celebrating her legacy of courage and resistance.

On February 3, 1948, Larry Doby officially signed his contract with the Cleveland Indians (now Guardians), making him the first Black player in the American League. While Jackie Robinson broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier in the National League with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947, Doby's integration of the American League is a lesser-known but equally significant milestone.

A lesser-known fact is that Doby faced similar racial hostility as Robinson but received far less media attention or institutional support. Despite the challenges, he became a seven-time All-Star, helped lead the Indians to a World Series championship in 1948, and later became the second Black manager in MLB history. His contributions were finally recognized when he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1998

On February 2, 1897, Alfred L. Cralle, an African American inventor from Virginia, received U.S. Patent No. 576,395 for his invention of the ice cream scoop. His design featured a one-handed, mechanical device that allowed for easy scooping and release of ice cream, a concept still used in modern scoops today.

A lesser-known fact is that, despite the widespread use of his invention, Cralle never became wealthy from it. Like many Black inventors of his time, he faced barriers to profiting from his work. Nevertheless, his creation remains a staple in ice cream parlors, households, and restaurants worldwide.

As an educator, I wanted to take a unique approach to Black History Month this year by creating puzzles. Puzzles offer numerous benefits for children, including developing fine motor skills, enhancing problem-solving abilities, improving hand-eye coordination, boosting visual perception, strengthening concentration, and fostering a sense of accomplishment. They also support spatial awareness, memory, and critical thinking through trial and error.

Throughout February, I’ll be designing puzzles that celebrate culture and excellence. The first release is the Love Your Crown set, which comes in packs of three and is now available for purchase. Link in bio ⬆️
