There seems to be a lot of misinformation being shared, so we would like to clarify a few facts.
The incident in question occurred when an individual came onto our private property seeking kayaks that had been removed from the river and brought a significant distance onto our land. Kim informed him that he would retrieve the kayaks and return them, but he refused that solution and became verbally aggressive, yelling, using profanity, and getting into Kim's personal space. Due to that behavior, law enforcement was contacted.
It should also be noted that the individual ultimately did retrieve the kayaks. The issue was never about keeping anyone's property. The issue was about respecting private property and handling the situation in a civil manner.
We own this property, pay the property taxes, and have spent years cleaning and improving land that was previously used as a dumping ground. We continue to invest significant time, effort, and resources into maintaining and improving it.
Claims suggesting illegal activity are completely unfounded. Hunting is legally permitted in this area, and over the years we have supported youth hunters, first-time hunters, women hunters, and veterans. We have always respected wildlife and followed the laws governing hunting activities. In recent years, we have chosen not to hunt, but the property remains within an area where hunting is legally allowed.
We also had absolutely nothing to do with any alleged incidents involving sharpened objects, tire damage, or activities occurring on someone else's property. Our property boundaries are clearly marked with "No Trespassing" and "Archery Range" signs, which were required as part of our operations.
Another false claim being circulated is that Kim placed "No Trespassing" signs on Americold Logistics property. Those signs were not installed by us. Anyone with questions regarding those signs is welcome to contact Americold directly. We were informed that the signs were placed because people had been riding through their property and they did not want to be responsible if someone was injured.
We would simply ask people to consider how they would feel if strangers entered their backyard or private property without permission. Property owners have rights, responsibilities, and safety concerns just like everyone else.
Just because we are private people who generally keep to ourselves does not make us "fishy." We are simply a husband and wife trying to make a living, operate our business, maintain our property, and provide activities and opportunities for families, youth, and the community.
We have no interest in ongoing public arguments. We simply ask that facts be verified before accusations are made. We will continue focusing on maintaining our property, serving our customers, supporting youth and family activities, and being responsible landowners. This will likely be our only public response regarding these accusations.
We appreciate those who know us, have visited our property, and have supported us throughout the 25 years on this property
Thank you, Kim and Deb
