Julia Chigamba, one of my first Zimbabwean teachers and the daughter of my mentor Ric Alviso's first mbira teachers, Tute Chigamba, has started a gofundme campaign for her family home in Harare, Zimbabwe where the entire Chigamba clan is based. Their home suffered some pretty serious damage when inclement weather caused the roof to collapse and they've been faced with expensive and serious repairs. Julia has been a spectacular inspiration to us over the years, and if you've ever enjoyed a Masanga Marimba show or a Marimba Institute of Los Angeles event or instrument, it's thanks to her and her family that you were able to.
