Kahuna Books Publishing Company Regarding Wondery's Podcast, "Against the Odds: Lost on Mount Hood", I’d like to ask that everyone remain respectful.

Some made a pact, in 1986, to never talk about these events. Some feel that they should stick to that pact. However, others need to be released from the control that comes with a verbal contract that was made amid tremendous grief. Many, controlled by this pact, were not even adults. To heal, people need to discuss what happened and talk about the people they have lost. Some prefer to stay silent.

There should be no judgment if others feel differently. We have been blessed to be a part of the lives of all 37 people who were interviewed. Each memory given was a piece of a puzzle that eventually came together to make a picture of what happened on Mount Hood during that terrible storm. The Northwest is home to
many heroes, and over 200 of them showed up to find 13 missing Oregonians. We have laughed and cried with amazing people, as their stories inspired us. I have cried many tears, agonizing over the brutal emotions that friends and family poured out in memory, when they were helpless, waiting for their children, sisters, brothers, best friends, or the love of their life. Please respect that all of these people deserve to have a voice, keeping the memory of their most precious loved ones alive. We have respected those who want to keep their memories private, and we have a great love for each person who endured the heartache that happened in 1986. PM ANY comments Sheri Conrad

Just learned of the passing of one of my childhood heroes. 97 years old! First American to summit Everest in 1963. I had the privilege of meeting and speaking with him in the late 1990s.

Sad to announce that NANCY BAXTER (1950-2026) passed away last night in Tampa, FL. Pancreatic cancer. Nancy was the chief dispatcher in Aspen during Ted Bundy’s first escape and provided extremely valuable information for our book “Six Days in Aspen.” She also provided info for three other pending Bundy books; all set in Colorado. R.I.P my friend.

Saddened to learn of the sudden passing of John Whitson. We interviewed him nine years ago for “Code 1244” and found him to be highly entertaining. He didn’t often speak about the 1986 Mount Hood Tragedy, so we certainly appreciated his cooperation. He will be missed by family and friends.

A special thank you shout out to Vince Lahey for providing me with a copy of Deputy Dave Westerlund’s statement to authorities. As the sole deputy guarding Ted Bundy at the time of the first escape, Westerlund’s 1977 recollections were helpful in describing that chapter of the book.

Kahuna Books is proud to announce the launch of the Amazon Kindle version of “Six Days in Aspen: The 1977 Manhunt for Ted Bundy.” The town’s strange mix of disbelief and humor was palpable as law enforcement members headed into the hills, in search of America’s most notorious serial killer.
