Since I’ve been playing with a lip in the floater gill, of course I had to try a wake lip. Even though the floater is already a wake, a lipped version would open additional situations for the bait…primarily around cover. Most wake baits on the market are wake and cranks. On faster retrieves the dive 1 foot or so under the surface. Well, this thing does not….it is a TRUE wake bait.

The floater is more subtle, can be fished super slow all the way up to a real burn. This “Gill Cover Wake” cannot be retrieved as fast (because of the extra resistance from the bill), but can also be retrieved super slow. Big difference is that it is a much bigger presence and pushes a lot more water. There will be a time and place for both.

I think this should also be an option very soon!

Minor update on the EKG7.5

I have been working behind the scenes to figure out a different material for the tails in the EKG7.5.

The material up to this point has been fantastic for bait performance. The original material is a rigid, but flexible urethane rubber. This has been great, but comes with some minor issues. The material can warp lying on the deck in the sun or if stored improperly (i.e., not flat or in a wrap). This is not ideal because it requires considerably more care when out on the water. Also, the urethane material is UV sensitive and will darken/change color a bit over time.

So, I have been testing several silicone materials for the tail of this bait, and I finally found it! So, going forward all EKG7.5s will come with the new silicone tail. This material will not kink or warp and is ultra UV resistant and easier to color. The new tail is slightly shorter than the original, but the performance of the bait has been maintained. The new tail is the chartreuse one pictured on the left.
