Our Story
PASSION AND EXPRESSION ARE BEAUTY ITSELF
Red Hands Co-op was started by folk artist Chris Ferree. He approaches his chosen medium with passion and creativity while encouraging and supporting other’s individual talents and artistic goals. Red Hands Co-op was born out of this mutual respect. Chris Ferree is a NAMA (Native American Music Awards) nominated singer, songwriter. As a way to display one of his Native American flutes, he built a display stand with antlers. It didn’t take long for one flute stand to become another. He enjoyed the process of searching for unusual pieces of wood and figuring out unique ways of arranging the antlers into different designs. He soon began creating other types of display stands for knives, guns, wooden bowls, mugs, candle holders, and wine bottles using reconditioned and raw pieces of wood, antler and bone, sometimes accented with wood burning, feathers, and skins making pieces that are both functional and aesthetic.
Over several years other artists have joined the co-op in different mediums, wire and stone jewelry by Linda Crowe, leather and metal work by Joe Darnell, paintings by Joshua Lee, and woodturning by David Gale, who participates in the 20 to 25 regional art and craft festivals Red Hands does each year, Red Hands Co-op won "Best in Show" at the 2014 Mount Holly Art and music festival and has been featured in regional magazines and newspapers. Our artists' works are on display and being sold in local galleries and stores in and around NC.
