A couple of days ago, my fiancé and business manager, Megan Oberg, posted one of our handmade leather backpacks on Marketplace to generate some sales for the business. A potential buyer, one “Donna Guice”, contacted Megan and claimed to transfer the money via Paypal. At this point Megan checked her paypal account and had no transactions or pending transactions. At this point an email was received from “paypal” stating that an additional $200 would be needed to bring the total up and upgrade Megan’s account to a “Business Account” and therefore be able to accept such a large amount of money at once. “Donna” then said that she would pay the extra $200 if we would reimburse her through Zelle/Gift Card/ Paypal. This raised suspicions immediately so we proceeded with caution. “Donna” then gave 3 different emails that all had different names as the emails, two of which were men’s names. These were the emails we were to use to reimburse her. After a short back and forth a message was sent to “Donna” stating the following:
1) The shipping address was in Atlanta GA and the profile said she lived and worked in Austin, TX
2) The 3 email addresses containing different peoples names was highly suspicious
3) The extra $200 that was to be reimbursed was suspicious as well
4) There are still no pending transactions or transfers in PayPal
5) The fact that any money had to be reimbursed at all is suspicious
All of this was mentioned to “Donna” and she was advised that if she would like to make a purchase, please go to our website and complete the purchase through there. It was at this point that Megan reported the profile as a possible scammer.
Fast forward 2 days and Megan’s account on Facebook is disabled. Not restricted, not banned, complete disabled. The messages sent back and forth in messenger are now locked. She can’t even look at posts. She is completely barred from even logging in. It has come to our attention that the scammer reported her account as fraudulent. All for trying to generate sales for our business.
I hate making posts like this, but this is completely un-called for. All the evidence that we have is given to the relevant people. If Megan’s account is not restored, or if I am banned or disabled from Facebook as well, then we will be utilizing EVERY platform available to let others know EXACTLY how Facebook treats scammers and legitimate small business owners! EVERY SINGLE PLATFORM.
