Pecan farm harvesting

07/09/2023

Been quite a while since I posted. I’ve had a LOT of projects going on. So here is a short list of the bigger projects I’ve had in the last year and a half;
1. Harvested 33 Pecan trees to thin a friend’s orchard.
2. Purchased a mill to mill the 50+ logs from that harvest.
3. Built my dad’s coffin with my brother with wood harvested from my folks land.
4. Milled some 200 year old white oak trees.
5. Spent a day harvesting some Pecan nuts at the orchard with two of my grandsons.
6. Harvested 34 MORE pecan trees.
7. Helped with the lobby transformation at church into scene sets for Indiana Jones.
7. Started the milling process of Pecan logs with my second son.

And many more Christmas projects for gifts, fun kid room dinosaur decorations, and several I forget. Too many projects going on.

Today will be the straightening and reinforcing of my home made log Peavey (I needed a Peavey that had a larger bite and longer to manipulate and move 1 ton logs). Then creating a mount for a laser kerf guide for the sawmill and spending time with my visiting son and local grandsons.

Pictures to come!

Update on my warranty; I did receive an email back today from Norwood. My warranty starts the date my last box shipped out, 9/7/2022. I had to make sure this was not the last backordered item they show, as I have one more that appears to be shipping next week. Almost got this taken care of.

Refinishing my mother-in-law’s parent’s dining table. Nearest I can find, this was manufactured by Joerns Brothers in Stevens Point, WI. This was purchased somewhere around 1933. That’s just a guess from the stories we were told of memories (unfortunately we didn’t think to ask when my wife’s grandparents were alive).

Also, this my be the first time the leaves have been installed in the top in over 35 years. I actually had the leaves with the idea of making a family keepsake and using the wood in that project. Fortunately that never happened and now they can be used for their original purpose.

As you can see, the wood has aged differently and I need to even out the wood coloring.

I am working with Norwood to get the remaining parts I’ve ordered in.

I received the trailer box and the two toe board boxes this past Monday, 9/12/22. I really needed the trailer box, since it has items that allow me to move the mill to where the logs are. Without that box, the mill just sits in my driveway. On a positive side of this, ALL my neighbors have stopped by to find out what I’m building. 😁 Great neighbor relations building, but I know some are getting tired of seeing this large Orange monstrosity in my driveway.

So my warranty is for 1 year. I’m trying to find out when that starts. Does it start from the day I first received the 2 pallets of my incomplete order? Does it start when I receive ALL the items from my first order?( still have backordered items) Or does my warranty start from the day I receive the last part to get this mill functional in the manner I expected to use it (I.e. mobile to get to the logs)?

I do not have the machinery to get bring the logs to the mill in my driveway. I also don’t think my HOA would appreciate me cutting in the driveway, if I could get the logs to it.

So I’m working with Norwood to get this cleared up. So far, they tell me, vi email, that my warranty started 5/31/2022.

Kind of hard to mill the way I planned when I can’t get the mill to the site the logs reside. This means that Norwood has my warranty clock running on a mill that sits in my driveway. Interesting business.
