Every spring brings challenges when running a plant nursery. Our on and off again cold weather has delayed a lot for us this spring from plants that should be up, growing nicely and available by May 20th to needed maintenance and repairs around the nursery. Here are a maple tree and an oak tree near our entrance photographed this afternoon. They are healthy enough - just delayed in leafing out due to the cold. We're all in it together. We GREATLY appreciate our customers' patience this year! Thank You!!!

With this nice spring-like weather, this snow won't last long. We'll be uncovering the beds soon. But, as Minnesotans, we're not easily fooled. Winter isn't necessarily done with us yet! So, we'll wait just a little longer to announce our Seasonal Opening Date.

Our gardens are heating up!

And, it's not just the temperature.

Our native perennials have finished growing their stems and leaves. All of that green is about to fuel an explosion of color.
Scarlet cardinal flower, pink blazingstars, yellow coneflowers, blue asters and many more. What a great time to enjoy a prairie garden!

This is also a great time to visit our nursery as the sales beds are immersed in that same blaze of color.

It’s a gift to be simple.

As we celebrate the 249th anniversary of our country this weekend it helps to remember the gift of the simple pleasures - like Black Eyed Susan. Often overlooked as too common, and sure, any one plant may not live many years - but once welcomed into your garden it will return and give back year after year. A simple gift for your garden that provides easy mid-summer showy splendor, ease and reliability. This Virginia Ctenucha (a kind of tiger moth) is happy for the ‘Susans in this garden too!

Kermit taught us well - It isn’t easy during periods when our gardens seem more green than colorful. Late spring can be like that when the excitement of the first blooms has faded and summer’s show has yet to start. But, green is the color of spring and, at least for today, it’s what this friend wants our garden to be.
