People sometimes feel they need to be able to articulate why they want a particular work before they are allowed to buy it. That is not how it works.

The attraction does not need a defense. You do not have to be able to explain Smoky Mountain Music II to someone who asks; you just have to know it belongs in your space.

The explanation, if you want one, tends to arrive later on its own.

Every work that reaches a collector is the result of many decisions, including the decision not to show what came before it.

The finished work is not the whole story. It is the end of a longer, quieter process that most collectors never see.

When you live with The Ogle Farm, you are living with the result of the artistic process and all that comes with it.

Interior designers often talk about sightlines. They're the natural path your eye travels when you enter or move through a room.

Most people never think about this consciously, but they feel it. Art placed directly in a sightline changes a room immediately.

Placement is as intentional as the work itself.

I think "Po Monkey" could fit into a few different places. Where will you display it?

The Delta Blues came out of the scorched earth of Mississippi. Juke joints were places where black farm laborers could congregate and end the work week with a little pleasure of listening to music that touched their soul. The Poor Monkey... known as The Po Monkey is a shack out in the middle of no place that, if it could talk, could tell stories about life and times of hard working and hard playing Americans. It is one of the only juke joints left that is still open today. It took William several hours of driving red, dusty roads to find this gem of Americana.

A lot of people hold off on collecting art because they rent and feel uncertain about committing to walls they do not own. But art does not belong to a wall. It belongs to you.

Renting is not a reason to live with bare walls. It is a reason to collect work that matters enough to keep moving (and growing) with you.

"Morning Mist at the McCaully Place" and my other work are connected to the people who love them, not just the places they're displayed.

Old Clabo Barn

Memories of boyhood, with my brothers and our best friends, playing in a huge old barn created my fascination with old wooden barns. Today across America most barns being built are metal. I love how an old barn weathers, each one becoming a unique American treasure. The Old Clabo Barn stands across the road from my house. In 1936 a group of barn builders, in the middle of the depression, came into Wears Valley, Tennessee and built around ten barns that summer. Now, nearly 90 years old, the Old Clabo Barn is the last one standing.

"Roadside Barn" // https://www.foothillsmercantile.com/warehouse-open-edition-prints/art_print_products/roadside-barn

This big old barn stands as a testament to the wonderful craftsmanship of barn builders of a couple of generations ago. Old barns like this one still dot the hills of the Smoky Mountains. I have always admired how different each barn is. As a boy, I admired the German made barns of the Ozark Mountains that were completely made without nails, each one consisting of hand-drilled holes that were finished with wooded pegs. Most barns were made out of rough old barn oak that weathers differently on each barn. Sadly, many of the old wooden barns have been abandoned and are now falling down.
