Selah Intermediate Inventor Has a Big Idea:
Genavieve Gamache has an idea, and for this fourth grade student at Selah Intermediate School, it is definitely big!
After earning "Best of Show" honors at the Invent Washington State Competition earlier this spring for "The Perfect Owl Pellet Education Kit," Gamache is heading to the National Invention Convention and Entrepreneurship Exposition (NICEE) May 31-June 2 In Michigan. The NICEE Convention provides an opportunity for youth inventors to display their critical thinking skills through inventing, innovating and entrepreneurial activities.
Showcasing her invention in the "Education Category," Gamache thought of her idea after researching online for owl pellet dissection educational kits and realizing there were no current kits that included all the necessary tools needed, and that were native to the Central Washington region. Specifically Gamache was interested in kits that could dissect owl pellets like the Great Horned Owl or Pacific Northwest Barn Owl.
Gamache markets her invention as โthe solution for all teachers, parents, and students needing a complete owl pellet education kit.โ Gamache says her creation includes a one-of-a-kind bone collection shadow box with original bone charts. The shadow box allows students to store the bones safely, and the illustrated charts help students identify what animal is in the owl pellet. In fact, Gamache has even taken her invention to the sales level, and as a rising entrepreneur has created her own business OwlEatsLLC, where her kits are sold.
Gamache, is one of several Selah Intermediate students on the schoolโs young inventors team, who have developed products by coming up with ideas to a specific problem, developing a solution, and then creating their inventions from scratch.
