Two upgrades most urban riders aren't thinking about. Your computer & your glasses.

Pulling your phone out mid-ride is a distraction problem, not a convenience problem. The Garmin Edge 1050 and Hammerhead Karoo both handle turn-by-turn navigation, pair with the Varia radar, and keep your eyes where they belong.

Your sunglasses. Scratched lenses reduce visibility more than people realize, and glasses that don't fit right are a hazard if you go down. KOO makes lenses specifically engineered for cycling optics. They're high contrast, have a wide field of view, and photochromic options that adjust as you move from shade to full sun. just launched new Dogma F's and they're pretty amazing. New TorayCa M40X carbon, stiffer than any previous generation of the Dogma. A series of aerodynamic refinements across the down tube, head tube, fork, and thru-axles. Each one small, each one measured, all of them adding up. A new MOST Talon Ultra Fast integrated cockpit. 3D printed titanium hardware throughout. Three groupset options and five colorways!

Science meets care and you're invited! On June 17th, the CBS + We Ride Why Obliteride team is hosting an evening at the shop with representatives from Fred Hutch's Philanthropy team. Helmets have a lifespan of 3-5 years. The foam breaks down even if it looks fine on the outside. If you can’t remember when you bought it, that’s your answer. Lights aren’t optional if you’re riding anywhere near traffic or low light. Front AND back. A bell weighs nothing, costs almost nothing, and saves you from a very awkward pedestrian situation on the Burke Gilman. And brake pads… if you can’t remember the last time you replaced them, it’s probably time.

Thankfully on June 25th we’re hosting a Safety Smash Night we can do a safety audit of your current safety gear. If you have that old helmet, bring it in and smash it in our Rage Room! (Fun fact: bike helmets shouldn’t be donated as it may be degraded and unsafe to use. So let’s smash ‘em instead. We’ll take care of recycling after.) 5 PM at CBS!

New on the blog: everything you actually need to know before your first group ride. What does w/kg mean? What's the difference between party pace and tempo? What are you supposed to do when you get to the front?

Group rides have their own language and nobody hands you a glossary when you show up. We wrote one. The full guide covers the terminology, the etiquette, the paceline mechanics, and how to read a ride listing so you know what you're getting into before you roll out. Link in bio!

Helmets should be replaced every 3-5 years even if they've never taken a hit. The EPS foam inside degrades over time from UV exposure, sweat, and heat. The shell looks fine. The foam isn't. You'd never know without cracking it open. And if your helmet predates MIPS technology, that's worth knowing too. MIPS reduces rotational force on the brain during angled impacts (the most common kind in a real crash.) It's now standard across quality helmets including the ones we carry from KASK and MET.
