Add leather, lace, gears, and imagination. The equation produces an amazing array of fashions, inventions, fantasies, stories, jewelry, and gatherings of people who enjoy playing with the concepts and all manner of toys. The costumes might fit at Queen Victoria’s court. Others would cause her to frown and utter those famous words, “We are not amused.” A strange and unusual woman might be costumed
in a military uniform, a miniskirt and an elaborate hat, or a traditional Victorian dress—except the Cybergoth, she's probably wearing vinyl and telephone cords. Shocking, perhaps. Delightful, certainly. More of Deadly Darling’s costume pieces and accessories will soon be available on our page, where there is mostly Steampunk jewelry right now. You might find a hat that makes you realize how much you’ve missed the opportunities of cool hat wearing. A vest, keychain, pocket watch, parasol, trinket box, or upcycled vintage leather bag might make you feel intrigued, or might make you do a happy dance because you just can’t help youself. Please drop in and have a look, and come back ofton. We’re brand new, we’re local here in Portland, Oregon, and we’re going to be growing. Please give us your feedback and wish lists. We want our clients to be part of our creative process. Our creative process at Deadly Darlings varies considerably, depending on the media we’re using. For the jewelry, I might start with vintage watch and clock movements, spending days at a time disassembling the movements into piles of gears, cogs, plates, and other parts. I then clean the parts of a century or decades of grease and grime, and assemble them into unique jewelry collages, with antique buttons, vintage jewelry bits, antique and modern keys, and other components discovered at antique stores, flea markets, or vintage home stores. Some of the coolest bits of vintage jewelry I incorporate come from my friend’s grandmother’s jewelry box, and may be over 75 years old. Other times we simply grab all sorts of shiny baubles and trinkets and throw them together with the manic energy Dr. Frankenstein would have if he discoved Red Bull. (It gives you crazy, disturbing wings!)
Each piece is unique, handcrafted, and produced with a generous dose of passion. I hope you love the piece you select, that it speaks to your heart, to the timelessness of art in our everyday objects, and to some fantasy of past and future you maybe didn’t even know you had.
