Our BPA problem might be even worse than we think, according to a new study out Thursday. Researchers say they’ve devised a new test to measure levels of the common industrial chemical in our bodies—levels that might be far higher than tests endorsed by the U.S. government and others suggest the...

☠️The bad news is phthalates are largely unavoidable but with some education and awareness, this chemical’s negative effect on your body and environment can be significantly reduced.

Pronounced THAL-ates, this group of chemicals are linked to endocrine disruption, developmental and reproductive toxicity, and cancer.

They have been completely banned from cosmetics in the European Union, but still remain prevalent in U.S, Canadian and Australian products.

We firstly want to define phthalates, what are the health risks they pose and how you can avoid them.

Why 'BPA Free' May Not Mean a Plastic Product Is Safe!⁣

Alternatives to the now infamous compound keep popping up. But researchers aren’t convinced they’re any better for us.⁣

Tea drinkers have been urged to avoid plastic tea bags after tests found that a single bag sheds billions of particles of microplastic into each cup (Environmental Science & Technology - September 2019).

Seems we all know someone these days who has had fertility issues. You may be struggling with some unresolved hormonal issues yourself... Could BPA be the cause?⁣

So what is BPA and where is it found?⁣

BPA (bisphenol A) is the most famous toxic chemical used in the production of plastics. Its use is widespread and has been around since the 1960s. Often used in food storage, including plastic packaging, kitchenware, and the inner coatings of cans and jar caps. ⁣
Studies show that BPA interacts with estrogen receptors and plays a role in several endocrine disorders, including female and male infertility, early puberty, breast and prostate cancer, and polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS). ⁣

The bad news is that studies are showing that its replacement BPS, another chemical in the Bisphenol family, may be toxic as well, showing some of the same hormone-disrupting effects as BPA!⁣

You're eating plastic! ⁣

Consider what you’ve eaten today... Juice and yogurt for breakfast? Coffee from a pod or in a disposable cup? There’s a good chance much of what you ingested was packaged, stored, heated, lined, or served in plastic. And unfortunately, there’s mounting scientific evidence that these plastic additives are harming our health.⁣
Most of our food containers — from bottles to the linings in aluminum cans and tinned food to plastic wraps and reusable containers — are made using polycarbonate plastics, some of which have bioactive chemicals, like bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates.⁣
These man-made chemicals can leach from the containers or wrappings into the food and drinks they’re holding — especially when they’re exposed to heat, UV light, and fats or if they are scratched or damaged.⁣

What is plastic? 🤔
Since Its inception, can we really say plastic has been anything but an evil creation? ...Too far?

Original versions, made by mistake from chemists in the late 1800s, although ’natural,’ contained Phenol, Sulphuric Acid, and Formaldehyde. Known agents that cause burns and have links to ALS.

Fast forward to the 1950’s - It doesn’t get much better! When Industry got ahold of plastic, It changed our lives for the better. But at what cost?

Synthesizing it from crude oil, coal, and natural gas and adding the modern-day nasties we know of such as BPA, BPS and Phthalates. These additives give plastics their amazing clear look and flexibility; the appealing characteristics we have come to know and love for the past 70 years.

But how do these additives affect your health? Stay tuned for our series of “Plastic Facts”
