AAM hosted its annual strings camp last week. TVD is glad to support AAM through lectures and musical performance by luthier and musician Erika as well as providing instrument rentals and support for many of the campers throughout the week and year.

This afternoon at strings camp Erika Sayar led an instrument maintenance workshop. This is one of the many benefits of the relationship between The Violin Doctor and Amadeus Academy of Music — students get direct access to and instruction from an expert luthier.

If you look closely you can see that the instruments were in pieces! Students learned about the different parts, how to reassemble and care well for their instruments. Thank you, Mrs. Sayar!

We welcome new Amadeus Academy of Music viola faculty member Joel Rudin! He is a former member of the Laurentian String Quartet, toured the United States, Canada, and Asia, and recorded for the Musical Heritage Society, Soundspells Productions, and Newport Classics. An active chamber musician, he has been a frequent guest artist with the All Seasons Chamber Players and the di.vi.sion piano trio. Mr. Rudin has played with the New York Philharmonic, New Jersey Symphony, American Symphony, and numerous other orchestras, as well as on Broadway. He is currently principal viola of Orchestra Long Island and the Symphony of Westchester and was formerly principal viola of the New York Grand Opera and the Delaware Valley Philharmonic. Joel is a frequent guest artist with the Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre.

A Reading Session For String Teachers: Thursday, July 30th at 4pm - All string teachers invited! Please join us on July 30th from 4-6 pm for a new music reading session featuring string orchestra music composed in 2025. The session will be led by composer and music educator, Cooper Ford, and several instruments and bows from beginner level to professional level will be available to try as well, provided by The Violin Doctor. Bring your instrument, a music stand, and a snack to share for our potluck social! Free to attend and on-site childcare will be available. Co-hosted by The Violin Doctor and Amadeus Academy of Music along with the NJ chapter of the American String Teachers’ Association. Held in the parish hall of St. Uriel’s Church at 219 Philadelphia Blvd, Sea Girt, NJ 08750. Please RSVP by July 27th and forward any questions to [email protected].

How many AAM students can you spot helping in the String Room at the Wall schools’ Instrument Discovery Night? (We spy Kelly Puzo, Gianna Zanette, Liam MacCarrick, Kaitlin Weir, Isabel Fregans and Brian Wolstein!) We love seeing our students help third graders consider what instrument they want to start in the school program. And of course The Violin Doctor is ready to help with rentals. If your student is starting in a school string program and would like to pair it with private lessons or start an instrument rental, reach out!
