Golden Tiles

With reports of Tuna fishing being extremely slow we had a tight window to run out and decided to go. Working our way to the spot we loaded up on the Mahi. Put the spread out and trolled close to 30nm without a touch. Marked bait and a few fish deep.

At night we made a few drifts for swords coming right on our second drift using a live Mackerel. In the morning, set up on the troll and had a triple knockdown. 2 skippies and a YFT. Pounded this area for awhile with no other touches.

We didn’t hear of anyone catching anything yesterday or that morning Knowing the weather was going to turn in the afternoon, we headed to test out a few spots to prospect for tiles. Made short time of putting a dozen in the box.

The wind was picking up and knew we had a long ride home. By the time we had 40nm to go the really picked up making the ride home extremely uncomfortable.

Great friends, great views and less then stellar fishing but made the best out of it.

OTM ! Quick trip out for some Sea Bass. Found a nice spot about 25-30nm out and all to ourselves. Fish were in a tight spot so ended anchoring after drifting was slow. Jogs produced but peanuts worked best. Few Ling mixed in and good size Mack’s we saved for stick baits later on in the season.

Fished 6/1 to 6/2

Left Saturday morning and headed out. Knowing the combination of the weekend days and great weather would create a lot of boat traffic we planned on getting the later afternoon bite on Saturday. Tough fishing but finally put Andre on his first tuna. Overnight was very quite with a 60” Mako brought to the boat and released. He definitely wasn’t happy and bit our chum bag clean off the line and took another “eff you” bite on the boat before swimming off.

Covered a lot of ground but the morning bite was tough. All the boat traffic pushed the fish off leaving us to reel in jumbo false albacore after another.

Always a great time and always good food !

Late post from 5/31 -

When you get 5 talented musicians together on one boat, some great music can be played.

Fished aboard Daryl Zaslow’s Salt Tribe with Matthew Mal Yar, James Kastner and Jim Starek. Left Friday at 3am and back at the dock just a few hours later that morning. One bite, one fish. 93” and weighed in at 450lbs. Everyone played a crucial part from the rigging of the bait to every tackle connection being perfect. Rare fish for these waters so close to home. Came to the surface on a handheld Avnet 50w on a Pinnacle rod.

Got em good from sun down into the night on the chunk. Released the big gals and kept a few for the table. Good times and good food with the band, minus one ...who was off in Mexico.

Back out at again it for a second night. Had plenty of freshly netted bunker and set up on the anchor mid tide. Fish came in waves with all of them being a decent size. Enjoyed the lightening show that came quickly upon us and headed back to the barn.

Ran out last minute to fish the end of the incoming tide. Found scattered bait deeper down in the water column in small pods. Snagged half dozen pieces and set up on anchor. Within 5min had a double and then another single after that. Bite died off quickly. All fish up to 25 # and released.
