So I spent 11 years as a grunt in the Army before getting out and becoming a police officer. As an infantry man younger used to carrying heavy weight, but on your shoulders. As a cop you wear the heavy weight of a duty belt around your waist and that weight pulls down on your hips and applies a lot of pressure to the small of your back, especially after standing many hours.
I was told about the backup brace by another officer I saw wearing it and so I did some research. After reading the reviews I thought I’d try it for myself. Having 3 herniated disks and arthritis in my lower back I figured it wouldn’t make it worse.
I ordered it, and the worst part of the process for me was fitting it on my gun belt in just the right spot. Taking everyone off. Sliding it into place. Putting everything back on just to realize I needed to adjust everything an inch or two one way or another. When I finally got it settled right I put it ok and immediately that first night on duty I felt relief. The weight that had been pressing in on a small area was now spread out over my entire lower back and I felt no pain or discomfort. I couldn’t believe how good it felt.
The pressure was gone. The pulling down on my hips was gone. And I could walk and stand without pain. 4 years later and I still have the same brace on. It’s so good I just got one for my LEO fiancé and although her waist is significantly smaller she loves and swears by it as well. If you’re one of those cops that wants his or her gear customized then I’ll say this is the single list important piece of equipment you’ll add to your duty belt. It’s literally a back saver.
