Today is the feast day of Saint Aloysius Gonzaga. He is the patron saint of youth, students, and those suffering from plagues.

Rejecting a military career, Aloysius renounced his inheritance and joined the Jesuits at the age of 17. As a Jesuit novice, Aloysius devoted himself to prayer, studying, and caring for the sick and impoverished.

During the plague outbreak in Rome in 1591, Aloysius tirelessly tended to the afflicted, contracting the disease himself. He succumbed to the illness at the young age of 23. Despite his short life, his legacy of compassion and selflessness left a profound impact on the Church and those who knew him.
