Gloria’s 10-year quest that began in Alaska and Wyoming ended today!

First buying the books herself, then with the help of relatives who traveled far and wide, Gloria built her collection book by book. With every purchase and gift—all found in the wild—she smiled as the number grew over the years.

Well, today was the day! We were honored to share her extra, extra special smile when she found the last two Nancy Drew books to complete her 1-56 collection.

Congratulations, Gloria!!

Did you see that massive fireworks display in DC a little while back??

Turns out, it was the City welcoming back Sophia after she completed her Nancy Drew collection!

What a great day this has been! Great weather and great people—like Brian—who stopped by while enjoying walking around Savannah’s sunny, low-70s temperature.

In addition to being a PR guru in Pennsylvania, Brian is a mega collector of vintage children’s series books. His favorites are the favorites of many of us, including Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Dana Girls, and Bobbsey Twins. In fact, he is a third-generation Nancy Drew fan and has inherited the books once owned (and loved) by his mother and grandmother.

Welcome to the South, Brian—it was fun talking series books with you!

At age 9, Jack knows more about The Hardy Boys series than 95% of the collectors who’ve come into the shop.

He and his parents stopped by the shop today so he could add three more dust-jacketed books to his growing collection. Almost immediately, he totally amazed me with his knowledge. You name the topic, he pretty much knew a lot about it, and we had a great time talking about all things Hardy Boys.

Turns out, though, one area he didn’t know about was the red shield, so I showed him a red cover book (no dust jacket) and a tan cover book with the shield on the dust jacket spine.

Can you picture his reaction? Oh yes. He was grinning ear to ear.

But . . . that was nothing compared to how happy he was a few minutes later when his parents surprised him with that red shield dust jacketed book as an early present!

Ah, to be a 9-year-old Hardy Boys fan named Jack this Christmas . . .

Today, Caroline found out just who she was almost named for . . .

Originally, her mother wanted to name her Beatrix (to be called Trixie) after her favorite childhood series character. Unfortunately, Caroline’s father’s favorite childhood character wasn’t Trixie Belden, so they compromised on the name Caroline

And did Caroline buy Julie Campbell’s favorite book to celebrate meeting the original Trixie today?

Of course she did!

Heard in the shop:

“All I want to do right now is quit my job and read Nancy Drew. . . “

Sounds like a plan to me!

(r to l) Mandi and her friends Stella and Amanda stopped by the shop this afternoon. Mandi, a middle-school librarian, loved seeing all the vintage children’s series books, especially The Bobbsey Twins and Trixie Belden.

Coincidentally, a little bit before Mandi came in, a friend sent her a photo of some Trixie Belden books and asked if she should donate the books. Always looking for new experiences for the kids, Mandi said no—the books would be perfect for her school’s library.

This story makes me grin ear to ear— what a great gift Mandi is giving those middle-schoolers. (And don’t you wish you could be there to see their faces light up as they meet Trixie, Honey, and the rest of the Bob-Whites??)

Liz loved saying hello to Chip Hilton last week because seeing the series brought back great memories of her father.

Her father played basketball in high school, and he loved reading Chip Hilton. When he graduated in 1950, he had terrific bragging rights—his team was the only one from the high school to ever place at State (3rd). That record holds to this day.

Just makes our day when we hear stories about life and books intertwining . . .
