🌿 Our Croton (Codiaeum variegatum) beds feature multiple varieties of these tropical favorites featuring bold, glossy foliage in brilliant combinations of green, yellow, orange, red, pink and burgundy. They thrive in our warm climate and offer year-round color to containers, foundation plantings and garden beds. Selections include:

Croton ‘Gold Dust’ is a colorful tropical favorite with glossy green leaves sprinkled with bright yellow-gold spots. It typically grows about 3–6’ tall and 3–4’ wide in the landscape and can be kept smaller with pruning.

Croton ‘Iceton’ is known for its large, glossy leaves that mature through shades of yellow, pink, red, burgundy and green, creating colorful interest year-round. It can be maintained at approximately 3–6’ tall and 2–5’ wide.

Croton ‘Magnificent’ lives up to its name with broad, glossy leaves splashed with green, yellow, pink, red, orange and sometimes bronze or purple. This colorful tropical shrub can grow up to about 6’ tall and wide outdoors, though it can easily be maintained smaller with pruning.

Croton ‘Yellow Mammy’ brings a bright tropical look with its narrow, twisting leaves splashed in vivid yellow and green, sometimes accented with touches of orange or red. This relatively compact croton typically grows about 3’ tall and 3’ wide.

Croton ‘Pie Crust’ is a distinctive tropical shrub named for its ruffled, wavy leaf edges, with colorful foliage featuring shades of green, yellow, red, orange and deep burgundy. It can grow about 4–6’ tall in the landscape and can be pruned to maintain a smaller size.

Our ‘Plant of the Week’ is the Lime Sizzler Firebush. You’ll love its green and golden-yellow foliage mixed with vibrant orange flowers. It blooms on and off throughout the year, attracting hummingbirds, butterflies and bees. The firebush thrives in full to part sun and typically reaches 3-5’ tall with a similar spread. And importantly, firebush is heat-, drought- and deer resistant. This plant is ideal as a hedge, landscape focal point or a mainstay in your pollinator garden. UF/IFAS Extension (Sarasota) recommends Water hyssop as an ornamental groundcover to mitigate against erosion along the edges of ponds. In these areas where grass cannot take hold, the hyssop’s root system works to stabilize the soil, helping to maintain the structural integrity of the bank. It is also ideal for filling low or common wet spots in local yards. Read more!

Happy ! Also known as Water hyssop, Herb-of-grace (Bacopa monnieri) is a creeping, mat-forming wildflower that occurs naturally in moist to wet habitats across Florida. Its tiny but abundant flowers attract a variety of small pollinators. It is also a larval host for the White peacock butterfly. In the right conditions, Herb-of-grace can be used as a groundcover and to help stabilize a freshwater shoreline.
