Watercolor Workshop
with Artist Virginia Pierce

Both compelling and at times mystifying, the medium of watercolor is broken down in this workshop taught in the light-filled gallery space at the Summerland Center for the Arts. You will discover that producing a well-designed and dynamic watercolor is no accident; success comes through careful planning.

Students explore value, composition, and color theory as they learn the subtleties and complexities of this transparent medium. Both wet and dry techniques are covered, as are washes, color lifting and glazing.

Modern Calligraphy Workshop

We're excited to announce a Modern calligraphy class next Sunday, August 18th.

Modern calligraphy is a beautiful, yet playful artform that stems from traditional techniques of calligraphy. In its stylistic twists and curves it adds a fresh and creative flair to correspondences, parties, decorations, art projects, and more.

In this call you will be introduced to the basic modern calligraphy alphabet and teach you beginner techniques you can use to practice making letter forms. You’ll learn about the tools and materials every modern calligrapher needs starting with how to hold and use the pen, as well as basic strokes. By the end of the class you'll be well on your way to developing your own modern calligraphy style!
