Ok, here is the mess that is my work space. I work on the floor always, and always use J.P. McDermott pencils which can be seen in the mess. These are unfinished 1940's wood belts belts featuring male musicians (bottom), female musicians (top belt) and dancers (which is blank as it is just being started). I have loved dancing with you all and so this is my way of honoring the efforts so many have put into our local music and dance scene. I am also doing a series of fans like this one (of the legendary Sylvia Sykes) and they feature our favorite musicians and dancers...am very slow to post these as they take a long time to do, heads up!

Art with lightening storms. strange symbols and lots of action, for lets face it, we are in a global and national storm of sorts, and my art reflects that. Visually there are lots of implied or actual disturbances that correlate with world situations and yet, within each piece I always present a solution, a way to find peace and uplift the soul. There are nuances within these works which can't be seen in the photo and on backs I give answers, but because google and FB censor what I do, this shot will simply have to be just a teaser showing a group of strange objects. However, each one has a story to tell when experienced in person and so I will be exhibiting these works at some rockabilly/swing events now and then and then you can get the full experience!

I have painted a number of works based on tragedies, war and disasters which aren't really shared on facebook for a lot of reasons. On a deeper level we are all interconnected and so the sorrows across the world are felt in my heart as well, how can it not? My "sorrow pieces" are intended to be poems, to comfort the heart, and to serve as a philosophical and spiritual catalyst. This piece of wood was plucked out of the epicenter of the tsunami that hit Japan so badly in 2011. It was shipped to me and I let it dry in the sun for months (bottom right). Then on the day my mother died, well, that felt like the right time to begin painting it and so I did. Here is the result, an odd shaped piece of wood memorializing what happened in Japan on that fateful day. And yes, I will be doing some art work on what is going on in Georgia, as well as what happened in Lanahai, for, to my mind, these incidents are all linked in a special way.

A couple of miniature surreal pieces, just 3" tall. These were done in the 1980's when I was studying the art of Lorser Feitelson, specifically his "Magical Space Forms" series. I am currently painting one of Feitelson's personal cabinets in this style and if nothing else, it promises to be a very unusual piece of furniture.

Recently completed my annual commission of miniature models of the Endowment Chair (which is in the main lobby at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in LA). I made the large chair in the 1990's and have been working for them ever since.

Time for some 9/11 art - this box features Building 7 (the third building destroyed that fateful day). On the front is inscribed: "Now you see it, now you don't" and on the top is a portrait of the building as it begins its 7 second freefall whereupon it turned into dust, and p**f, the whole thing was destroyed in just a few seconds. I love painting that which is hidden, dark and mysterious (as is the tale of Building 7), and at the very least, it makes for some interesting imagery!

I did a couple of paintings of blonde courtesans with fancy red tortoise hair ornaments in the style of woodblock prints of Edo Japan - I just love all types of fashions, have to say....east or west.

Some of the first violins I did in the late 80's, featuring the king and queen of hearts playing cards. Playing cards represent the game of life and love and so being a romantic at heart they have always been included in my work, even now. I just love the symbology!

Am all about applying faux leopard designs on my teacups. The excerpt is from the book "Book of Cups" by Garth Clark and in it we see my leopard teacup along with the 1930's artist who inspired this series, surrealist Merit Oppenheim.

This is a teacup and saucer based on the cubist artist Braque (along with a second plate.) On the plates are a guitar with music and on the cup, an amorphic artist's palette with brushes and a vase. I am a big fan of cubism, have to say, it always highlighted the play of straight lines to curves in a most definitive way.
