Sessions MFG

Sessions MFG Sessions MFG: snowboarding since 1983 Sessions is a prolific brand with over 30 years of counter culture influence.

Beginning as the first snowboard shop in North America, out of the Nor Cal surf mecca Santa Cruz, Sessions proudly stands with pioneer brands. Our product has been avant-gaurde for many of the decades inspired by old team members that have become snowboarding/skateboarding icons. Sessions is legendary, relevant and still snowboarding since 1983.

Throwback Thursday with Christian Hosoi. I think he’s 13 years old in this 1979 clip of him shredding at one of the contests held at the Marina Del Rey Skatepark. Make sure you check out his huge ollie and the layback... -Joel

I came across this post the other day, and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. .boardhouse

I got my start in the skateboard/snowboard industry with my little snowboard and skate shop back in the ‘80s and ‘90s, so I know firsthand how hard it is to keep those doors open.

If you live in the Tahoe area, do me a favor and stop into Truckee Boardhouse and buy something. It’s the perfect time to grab a graduation gift for a family member or a friend… hell, buy something for yourself.

Small shops like this are part of what keeps these communities special.

Throwback Thursday to 1986 — the one and only time I got to skate Pipeline. It was during a road trip with Rob Roskopp, possibly right after one of the ASR Trade Shows. Salba took us to skate the Mt. Baldy full pipe.

Not a single photo was taken from that weekend, just this old Pipeline membership card that I’ve somehow managed to hold onto for nearly 40 years. -Joel.

Throwback Thursday: My first trip to Mt. Baker was around 1986, for the Banked Slalom contest. Before I was allowed to ride on the mountain, I had to pass a basic snowboarding skills test by Baker’s legendary snowboarder, Carter Turk. -Joel

Throwback Thursday: I only rode this board a handful of times, and I can’t quite recall which 1980s contest I used it in. Tom Sims gave it to me during one of my visits to the Sims factory in Santa Barbara. On this trip, it was the only time I got to surf with Tom. -

Throback Thursday: Skateboarding was the foundation for many of us during the early days of snowboarding. Here’s a classic variation of a handplant by Kidwell from 1989.

One of the few snowboarding photos I ever managed to take—here’s Steve Caballero, winter of ’83/’84 (if memory serves…). That winter, we did a couple of trips together, one of which included Lance Mountain... Thank you, Michael Chantry, for always letting us crash at your home back in the day. -Joel
