TONIGHT at The Printed Garden
Reading and Book Signing with author C. R. Langille!

The prize is $500,000. The game is to be the last one left. The cost… is everything.

Trevor Hasting is on the brink of losing it all. Lucy Bingham is ready to build a future for herself and break away from her cursed past. For both, the reality television show is more than a test of skills, it’s a chance to start over.

Yet as Trevor, Lucy, and the other contestants start the game, everything changes. Food is scarce. A strange red moss strangles the landscape. And something stalks the deep timber, taking the survivalists out one-by-one.

While the show’s producers watch from afar, a ritual older than the Earth itself begins to unfold. To survive, Trevor and Lucy will not only have to battle the elements but also the antlered creature stalking them, or they’ll find out what drives the worms to feast to edit.

Join us in welcoming C. R. Langille to The Printed Garden to read from, answer questions about, and sign copies of their new book! This event is free, open to the public, and will begin at 7:00 p.m.

SATURDAY at The Printed Garden
We're hosting a special Children's Storytime and Book Signing with author Melissa Richardson!

In this lyrical and empowering tribute to Latine laborers, one child realizes how her Papi’s love and labor make their community, home, and future stronger, and illustrates her vow to do the same—perfect for fans of Someone Builds the Dream and My Papi Has a Motorcycle.

"My Papi’s hands are bigger than mine…That’s because they build cities piece by piece, día tras día.

Because of my Papi’s hands, I know what my hands can do. And together, our hands will build a brighter future, piece by piece, día tras día."

With lyrical text and striking wood block illustrations, this heartwarming ode to parental love uses the metaphor of a father's labor to illustrate how manos poderosas can teach little hands how to create change within their community.

Join us in welcoming Melissa Richardson to The Printed Garden Saturday afternoon, May 16th, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Melissa will be giving a special children's storytime, and will read from and sign copies of her new picture book, My Papi's Hands. We'll also have some cookies for our guests.

Chad Anderson appearing to launch his new graphic novel
Gay Mormon Dad

All his life, Chad Anderson was told he was broken. He believed with all his heart that being a good Mormon would make him straight, because that is what he was told. Chad followed the prescribed road map: mission, marriage, and children. But it didn’t make him happy, and it didn’t make him straight. For Chad, coming out meant losing everything and starting again.
Gay Mormon Dad is the story of one man learning to love himself in a complicated world. This inspiring autobiography unfolds in two parts, “Then” and “Now,” woven together in a way that will hit you right in the heart. Vibrantly illustrated by artist Remy Burke, this moving graphic novel sheds light on the dangers of spiritual abuse and illuminates the path to healing.

We're excited to welcome author Chad Anderson back to The Printed Garden to read from, answer questions about, and sign copies of this powerful new graphic novel adaptation of his autobiography of the same title. This event is free, open to the public, and will begin at 7:00 p.m.

It's finally happened! Over the last year, our blind date books have relinquished their display spinner so we could show off the lovely collection of MAD Magazines that we'd taken in.

But today the Blind Date books have reclaimed their tower. We've made a large batch of new Blind Date books, and will be clearing out the MAD Magazines that remain from the collection.

To help them move out, we've put together an evolving discount schedule for them. Today, they've all been marked down:
$20 MADs are now $10
$15 MADs are now $8
$12 MADs are now $6
$10 MADs are now $5

These prices start today, and will run through Noon on Saturday - Independent Bookstore Day - when they'll be cut in half. At 3:00 p.m. they'll be cut in half one more time. Starting at 5:00 p.m. I'll entertain offers for whichever issues are still on the table.

You'd have to be MAD not to take advantage of this! Thanks!

NEXT SATURDAY
is
Independent Bookstore Day!

The Printed Garden has been in Sandy, and celebrating Independent Bookstore, Day for 10 years! Can you believe it? We can't!

Drop in any time next Saturday. We'll have cookies and balloons for our young guests, and will be having a "Second Copy Sale." On a day-to-day basis, we don't have more than one copy of a book on our shelf at a time (small store), but we'll be pulling out all of the second copies of secondhand books that we have in the store, and will be selling all of them for 50% off!

Thank you for helping grow this little bookstore into something really special! I hope you can swing by!

TONIGHT at The Printed Garden at 7:00 p.m:

Guest Author Linda Hamilton in conversation with Steve Capone, Jr. of Whisper House Press!

The Hacienda by Isabel Cañas meets “Sister Wives” in a deliciously chilling, darkly romantic, historical gothic horror with a feminist slant, as a young Mormon woman is haunted by a malevolent presence in the decrepit Salt Lake City mansion she shares with her new husband and his other wives…

Hazel Russon’s life in 1882 Utah territory is defined by three things: the Mormon church, polygamy, and the men who control both. She knows she’s supposed to suppress her sinful dreams of a monogamous life with her sweetheart, and her desire for the freedom to play her beloved piano. Every Mormon woman’s duty is to live obediently and meekly, devoted to her husband and her calling as a sister wife. Her eternal salvation depends upon it.

Commanded to become the fourth wife of a man she’s never met, Hazel is relieved that Jacob Manwaring is attentive and handsome. However, she is shocked to discover that instead of living separately as is custom, all of Jacob’s wives and children live in the same house—a large, dilapidated manor that inexplicably fills Hazel with dread.

Despite Jacob’s tenderness, Hazel senses dark secrets and resentments among her sister wives. She hears strange music, sees blood oozing from the very walls, and glimpses apparitions that grow more terrifying every day. And as her nightmares worsen, Hazel can’t be sure if she has more to fear from the living—including her mysterious husband—or from a sinister presence that seems to animate the house itself . . .

Drawing on little-known Mormon folklore and the author’s own polygamous ancestors, this fascinating, suspense-filled historical novel debut is by turns darkly romantic, spine-tingling, and wholly unforgettable.

Join us in welcoming Linda Hamilton to The Printed Garden to discuss her new book, writing, and horror fiction with Steve Capone, Jr., founder of Whisper House Press. This event is free, open to the public, and will begin at 7:00 p.m.

We were SO EXCITED to be able to host this handsome fellow at The Printed Garden! Big THANK YOU to Marc Gregson for reading some of his work, hosting an awesome Q&A, and signing copies of the third and final book in his Above the Black trilogy, Downfall last night! Not only is he one of the kindest people I've ever met, I couldn't read his trilogy fast enough. All three books in this story cycle are high-stakes, high octane fantasy thrillers that are impossible to put down.

Before leaving last night, Marc signed copies of all three books to leave in the store - they're perfect for anyone who loves Brandon Sanderson's work and ideal for reluctant readers, as they take off like a shot from the opening pages.
