It’s springtime! Wanna know what I’ve been growing?

A start up 🦄

When I closed the pop-up inside of in summer of 2022, it actually stayed alive inside the halls of .

The experience of running a small business and being part of the SoFA & DTSJ communities made me realize that the ✨secret sauce✨ to succeeding as a business is building strong relationships with your customers.

I meaaan y’all could’ve gone to Home Depot to buy a plant for 50% cheaper and you could’ve unfollowed me 2 years ago when the store closed, but I like to think you didn’t because our bond is super strong and you still care 🥰✨

The experience I had running Mother Pucking Nature made me wonder if the shop’s success was a fluke, or if there was something I could create to help other small businesses thrive the way MPN did. Soooooo W***y & I made it a research project, recruited some talented students to work on it with us, and have since made some pretty cool progress.

For example, what started as a capstone project, turned into a fully incorporated start up. We also won a grant, received funding from USC, have a team of developers overseas, and are 90% ready to launch V1 of our product 🕹️

If you’re still reading this, thank you for sticking with the story & for sticking by the brand for so long ❤️ The reason I’m making this post is because we want to know if our product will work and want to test it in the same environment where MPN was born & raised.

If you would like to participate in our pilot, hit me up :) We are specifically looking for someone who uses UberEats for their business and would really really really love to chat. Of course, even if you don’t have a small business but have advice or thoughts, we would love to hear them 🫶🏽

Btw - the penguin on our hats is Nootsie! We chose a penguin as our mascot because they’re loyal animals and we’re all about cultivating customer loyalty 🐧

Did you die?
Not yet!

But I was in the Philippines for a month - to see Mother Nature in the motherland & to see my mother (nature) renew her vows.

Then when I got back to California I jumped straight into motherhood - the stray cat I adopted got pregnant & had 4 babies while I was away.

We raised the babies and adopted some out last week. At the same time I got a new job as a social media manager and realized how much corporate social media drains my soul - hence MPN’s lack of presence on social media.

But I’m still alive and still playing with plants and flowers :) been entertaining the idea of holding classes to help other people enjoy them the same way I do but mostly been vibing and trying to find sunshine in all of this rain ☔️

In the spirit of spooky season, let’s talk about the dead - aka my dead albo lmao RIP 💀

Pic 2 & 3 are of my plant in July - tall, handsome & healthy. After 2 years, it had started growing half moon variegations and was almost 6 feet tall.

But July is also when it started dying. Not shown in pic 2 is the styrofoam my dad added to the bottom of its new pot in order to “take up space & use less soil”.

He didn’t know at the time but
🚨🚨styrofoam is toxic🚨🚨

- styrofoam leaches styrene when it breaks down. Styrene is a chemical used to produce styrofoam but is considered a carcinogen in humans and (girl I read scientific papers for this) causes cell degeneration and stunted growth in plants
- most municipalities don’t accept styrofoam in your recycling bin because it requires additional processing and some cities don’t have the facilities to support it
- if your local waste collection agency doesn’t accept styrofoam you should probablyyyyy not stuff it in your soil @ dad 🤷🏽‍♀️

Anyhoo, people make mistakes and the good thing about plants is that they grow back. We replaced the soil and cleaned the roots and are working on rehabbing it to its former glory ✨

But lesson learned! Even plants are affected by micro-plastics. And micro-plastics can come from directly placing toxic materials in the soil or through the water we use for our plants 💦 just a reminder to be mindful of how small actions can have big repercussions and to stay informed :)

Growing up I was a theater kid lol. I started acting in the 2nd grade and kept at it through middle school. When my family moved to California, I tried to get into acting again by auditioning for my high school’s musical.

I’m a good actor but a bad dancer / singer, so when my drama teacher asked us to dance and sing to 80’s songs, I knew it was going to be bad.

It was so so so bad. That musical was an 80’s version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream & since high school I’ve felt a little PTSD every time I hear the word’s “Midsummer Night” or the song “take on me”

Until recently.

I found out that some of my favorite flowers - dahlias & butterfly ranunculus - bloom in midsummer. I also met W***y & fell for W***y during midsummer :)

Sometimes bad memories need to be overwritten with good ones. But for brides or flower enthusiasts, midsummer is the best time for pretty, fairy florals (i believe that the fairies in a midsummer night’s dream would approve) 🎭

This is your friendly reminder to water your plants (pets, friends & self) 💧

The heat dome is no joke and if you care about your plant bbs, keep them watered. Be responsible with your water consumption though and don’t water them during peak heat hours if they’re outside 😵‍💫 water them in the morning or evening when the sun isn’t blazing. You can also prevent leaf scorching by covering them with tarps / shade (or .usc 😉)

And pls keep an eye out for our vulnerable community members 🫶🏽 Carry some extra water bottles in your car and pass them out to people who look like they could use some hydrating 🥰 plants and people grow with love and this heat wave means we should be a extra generous with our water and love
